Seoul Busters episodes 7 & 8 recap: Jeong-hwan's redemption and the squad's triumph in a twisted kidnapping case
Episode 7 of Seoul Busters started with a flashback of Jeong Jeong-hwan’s (Seo Hyun-woo) past. While taking out the trash, he recalled his time competing in the qualifying rounds for the Olympics. In his shooting gear, he aimed at the target. However, through Mu Jung-ryeok’s (Park Ji-hwan) recounting to Jang Tan-sik (Lee Seung-woo), later in the episode, it’s revealed that Jeong-hwan missed the shot.
The scene shifted to the nation's lowest-ranked detective squad chasing a suspect. Jeong-hwan aimed his gun but hesitated to shoot.
The episode further explored Jeong-hwan’s personal life. The squad attended his housewarming dinner, meeting his wife and four daughters. Afterward, Mu Jung-ryeok shared Jeong-hwan's backstory with Jang Tan-sik. Jeong-hwan met his wife during their time training for the national teams—he for shooting, she for table tennis.
Both had dreams of winning medals, but after facing failures, their priorities changed. When his wife became pregnant, they married, and Jeong-hwan gave up his Olympic dreams to join the police academy and support his family.
The squad was then assigned a new case involving a young girl named Yoona, who went missing after school. They gathered statements and discovered that her uncle, who usually picked her up from the school bus, was absent on the day she was abducted.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the team deduced that a man, specifically targeting Yoona, was behind the abduction. They discovered Yoona’s father, Choo Yong-jin, was a YouTuber who exposed bait and switched scam artists. He suspected one of the people he had exposed was responsible for the kidnapping.
Led by Dongbang Yu-bin (Kim Dong-wook), the squad interrogated the scammers, but all except Yoon Seohun had alibis. Yoon Seohun was the primary suspect due to his criminal history and gang connections. As the news of the kidnapping leaked, the case goes viral.
Meanwhile in Seoul Busters, a ransom note was sent along with a cake to Yoona’s parents. The delivery woman provided a drawing of the kidnapper. In a humorous twist, the delivery woman turned out to be a caricaturist. She sketched an exaggerated portrait of the suspect. This only added to the confusion.
Mu Jung-ryeok remained convinced that Yoon Seohun was the culprit and summoned him. However, Yu-bin discovered that Yoon Seohun was colorblind and ruled him out as a suspect since the ransom note had colorful cutouts. Additionally, Yu-bin believed the kidnapper was a woman. At the end of episode 7 of Seoul Busters, the case attracted the attention of higher-ups, leading to the squad's dismissal from it. A special investigation team took over and moved into their precinct.
In episode 8 of Seoul Busters, despite being removed from the case, the squad continued to investigate under Yu-bin’s leadership. Yu-bin and Seo Min-seo (Park Se-wan) attended Choo Yong-jin’s school reunion. In a comedic moment, Min-seo was mistaken for a classmate known for dancing. She ended up in an unexpected dance battle.
While Min-seo distracted the crowd, Yu-bin quietly gathered information. He learned that Choo Yong-jin was a notorious bully. One of his victims was so traumatized that he ended up in a coma for the last 13 years and died three months ago.
The squad then focused on the victim’s sister, Mi-jeong, who worked at a hotel. They found a 60% match between her and the kidnapper on the CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, the special investigation team focused on Yoon Seohun after finding his fingerprints on the ransom note. While the squad was uncooperative with this team, Jeong-hwan struggled with a dilemma. He was torn between revealing Yoon Seohun's colorblindness and betraying his team, but ultimately chose to remain silent.
The special team attempted to arrest Yoon Seohun, while Yu-bin sent Mu Jung-ryeok and Jeong-hwan to apprehend Mi-jeong instead. Mi-jeong tried to escape, injuring Jeong-hwan, but Mu Jung-ryeok stopped her car with his strength. Jeong-hwan then showcased his shooting skills, puncturing her tire and bringing her to a halt.
Arrested Mi-jeong confessed to the kidnapping, revealing she did it to make Choo Yong-jin feel the same pain she experienced from losing her brother. Though she initially intended to kill herself along with Yoona, she couldn’t go through with it.
Yoona was then safely reunited with her parents. As Mi-jeong was taken away, Choo Yong-jin apologized for what he did to her brother. Both broke down in tears.
In the final scene of episode 8 of Seoul Busters, the special investigation team left, much to the delight of Yu-bin’s squad.
Episodes 9 and 10 of Seoul Busters will be available on Disney+ from 12:30 pm IST on October 2, 2024, and 4 pm KST.
