Meanwhile, Kang Hu-yeong, a financial advisor, returns to South Korea from the US for work and runs into his first love, Lee Hong-ju, after a decade. Serendipity's Embrace showcases their blooming romance after their reunion.
Serendipity's Embrace ending explained: Kim So-hyun takes a major step towards her relationship with Chae Jong-hyeop
In episode 7 of Serendipity's Embrace, Lee Hong-ju finds her ex-boyfriend, Bang Jun-ho (Yoon Ji-on), outside her rooftop house after being rejected by her. During their relationship, Lee Hong-ju had written several letters to Bang Jun-ho, and now he is throwing tantrums by throwing her letters as she didn't accept him back.
Meanwhile, Kang Hu-yeong's mother, Baek Do-seon (Kim Jung-nan), sees Lee Hong-ju and Bang Jun-ho together and thinks Lee Hong-ju is in a complicated relationship with another man. Later, Baek Do-seon meets Lee Hong-ju and tries to push her away from Kang Hu-yeong, stating that she doesn't want her son to get involved in it.
Lee Hong-ju explains that it was Kang Hu-yeong who chased her and attracted her, not the other way around. Baek Do-seon quickly turns things around, saying that Kang Hu-yeong has a history of seducing women and playing with young girls' hearts. She further stated that he would become the CEO of her company and that it would be better for him to return to the US.
Lee Hong-ju replies by saying that she had no say in Kang Hu-yeong's decision to stay in South Korea. Later, Lee Hong-ju and Kang Hu-yeong get into an argument where she snaps at him as she believes Kang Hu-yeong would also leave her like others. Kang Hu-yeong also states that he is bothered by Bang Jun-ho as he has hurt Lee Hong-ju in the past.
The next day, Kang Hu-yeong meets Kwon Sang-pil (Lee Won-jung), who reveals that Lee Hong-ju often has nightmares about chasing people who then leave her behind. Kwon Sang-pil states that she didn't need to chase them but Lee Hong-ju wants to bid farewell and say the last goodbye to them so that she does not have to wait for them.
Kang Hu-yeong realizes that ten years ago, he also left her without saying goodbye or telling her about shifting to the US. On the other hand, Lee Hong-ju also realizes that she causes her anxiety and says harsh things in the heat of the moment. They soon reconciled.
In another development, the second couple of Serendipity's Embrace, Kim Hye-ji (Kim Da-som) and Sohn Gyeong-taek (Hwang Seong-bin) make it official. Sohn Gyeong-taek finally musters the courage to confess his feelings for Kim Hye-ji.
In the final episode of Serendipity's Embrace, Baek Do-seon catches Kang Hu-yeong off guard and creates a scenario where he has no choice but to return to the US. Kang Hu-yeong's resignation has not been processed, and he meets with some investors in South Korea for his independent business.
Baek Do-seon uses this opportunity and decides to file a lawsuit against her son so that he has to go back. She also gives a credit card to Lee Hong-ju, as she was leaving before Kang Hu-yeong. She asks Lee Hong-ju to use the card for the airfare and come to the US with Kang Hu-yeong following her. This was only because Baek Do-seon trusted her son and not Lee Hong-ju.
After seriously considering this offer, Lee Hong-ju decides to stay back as she has her job, friends, and close ones in South Korea. Although she is to be apart from Kang Hu-yeong, Lee Hong-ju decides to wait for him to finish the lawsuit.
Serendipity's Embrace season 2 possibilities
Finally, it was time for Kang Hu-yeong to leave for the US, but Lee Hong-ju was too busy with her work and could not see him off. As he was waiting at the airport, he saw Lee Hong-ju and was surprised to see her. Lee Hong-ju, who had decided to use her paid leave for a short trip to the US with Kang Hu-yeong.
The narration discussed the Korean title of the show, '우연일까?', which is 'Could this be a coincidence?.' The epilogue of the last episode revealed that Kang Hu-yeong had saved Lee Hong-ju from a bicycle and ended up getting his leg fractured. This confirmed that their first encounter was not on the bus, but coincidentally before that.
The drama ended on a happy note, but some unanswered questions sparked curiosity. Kang Hu-yeong wanted to become an animation director in high school, and it seemed like he would stay in Korea to pursue his dreams. Moreover, nothing about his business had been shown in the drama.
Curiosity regarding the lawsuit with Kang Hu-yeong's mother has also been raised. With the above questions, there are possibilities of a second season of Serendipity's Embrace, however, nothing has been confirmed by the production company of the tvN drama.
All eight episodes of Serendipity's Embrace are available on Rakuten Viki for streaming.
