Serendipity's Embrace, starring Kim So-hyun, Chae Jong-hyeop, and Kim Da-som, aired episodes 3 and 4 on tvN at 8:50 pm KST on July 29 and 30, 2024, respectively. The rom-com drama follows the romantic tale of two high school friends who meet each other coincidentally after 10 years.
Kim So-hyun plays the role of Lee Hong-ju, an animation producer with zero interest in love due to her heartbreaking experience with relationships. Meanwhile, Chae Jong-hyeop depicts Kang Hu-yeong, a financial advisor back in South Korea. In episode 4 of Serendipity's Embrace, Kang Hu-yeong, who met Lee Hong-ju after a decade, decided not to return to the US and pursue his childhood dream and his first love, Lee Hong-ju.

Serendipity's Embrace Ep 3-4 recap: Chae Jong-hyeop helps Kim So-hyun after she gets into an accident
Episode 3 of Serendipity's Embrace picked up from the previous episode, where Kang Hu-yeong saved Lee Hong-ju from her ex-boyfriend, Bang Jun-ho (Yun Ji-on), who believed she was still in love with him.
As Kang Hu-yeong realized who Bang Jun-ho was, he remembered when Lee Hong-ju decided to visit her first love, Bang Jun-ho, at his military base to confess her feelings during high school. Despite having an important interview at Seoul National University, Kang Hu-yeong skipped it and decided to follow her.
Later, in the present of Serendipity's Embrace, Kang Hu-yeong coincidentally met Lee Hong-ju outside her office, and she asked him to join her for dinner. Lee Hong-ju was playing Cupid for her best friend Kim Hye-ji (Kim Da-som), whose first love was Kang Hu-yeong, so she called her as well. Kang Hu-yeong was upset by this and called Lee Hong-ju clueless and a fool, but it was because he wanted to spend time with her alone.
Lee Hong-ju got mad at him for calling him a fool and left the restaurant, making an excuse to go to the washroom. Lee Hong-ju wanted to give them space; on the other hand, Kim Hye-ji realized Kang Hu-yeong liked Lee Hong-ju. To confirm this, she also asked him if he had liked her since high school, and he nodded.
Watching Lee Hong-ju drawing a line, Kang Hu-yeong decided to leave for the US and get back to work without bidding farewell to his friends. In episode 5 of Serendipity's Embrace, on his way to the airport, Kim Hye-ji calls him to inform him that Lee Hong-ju got into a car accident and asks him to go to the hospital if possible. Kang Hu-yeong asked the driver to turn the car towards the hospital and went to see Lee Hong-ju.
Lee Hong-ju was supposed to get admitted to the hospital, but she was confident she could stay home. Kim Hye-ji arrived at the hospital with Sohn Gyeong-taek (Hwang Seong-bin), her colleague she set Lee Hong-ju up with for a blind date.
Previously, it was revealed that the date didn't work out. For Lee Hong-ju's happiness, Kim Hye-ji decided to support Kang Hu-yeong and play Cupid this time. She even lied that she started dating Sohn Gyeong-taek to confirm she was over Kang Hu-yeong.
Kang Hu-yeong took Lee Hong-ju to his uncle Baek Wook's (Choi Dae-chul) house, which is downstairs from Lee Hong-ju's house. Despite declining his help, Kang Hu-yeong decided to look after her as she couldn't use crutches and climb the rooftop house where she lived.
Kang Hu-yeong picked her up and helped her take her to her house, bringing him porridge and medicines. Kang Hu-yeong also asked her to come downstairs for breakfast.
The Serendipity's Embrace episode flashbacks to when Lee Hong-ju and Kang Hu-yeong went to Bang Jun-ho's army base. Lee Hong-ju was unable to confess her feelings for Bang Jun-ho as he had been deployed to another place. Lee Hong-ju and Kang Hu-yeong missed the last bus home, and the latter suddenly fell into a tunnel-like place half filled with water. To save Kang Hu-yeong, Lee Hong-ju also happened to fall into the water. There was no way out, so they stood in the water the entire night.
This is when the model student Kang Hu-yeong revealed that his dream was to become Animation Director and Lee Hong-ju asked him to share his dream with her as she did not have any future goals.
In the present of Serendipity's Embrace, Kang Hu-yeong found Lee Hong-ju's business card, which revealed her profession. This discovery made him stay in South Korea to pursue his dream and Lee Hong-ju. Lee Hong-ju worked for 10 years in the production company and is set to debut as an Animation Producer with Bang Jun-ho's story. Although she was not a director, she was satisfied with it.
While having breakfast with Lee Hong-ju, Kang Hu-yeong amusingly reminded her she was supposed to give five percent of her salary every month for lending his dream. Lee Hong-ju and Kang Hu-yeong bickered for a while, and the former asked the latter if he wanted to watch one of her animation movies.
To bring her laptop from upstairs, Lee Hong-ju and Kang Hu-yeong go outside. As Lee Hong-ju tried to go up by herself, Bang Jun-ho barged in, opening the gate. He lashed at Lee Hong-ju for not working more passionately and wasting her time. He threatened to fire her, to which Lee Hong-ju asked him to go ahead. Despite the pain in her leg, she climbed the steps without anyone's help.
Serendipity's Embrace episode 4 ended with Kang Hu-yeong kissing Lee Hong-ju at her place, asking her to recover her health and her heart. It is yet to be seen what happens next on Serendipity's Embrace.
