On November 28, 2024, BTS became the first K-pop act to surpass 1 billion YouTube views on seven music videos, including Butter. The song was released on May 21, 2021, and topped the Billboard Hot 100.
Other six music videos that surpassed the 1 billion YouTube views threshold before Butter are as follows:

- DNA
- Boy With Luv
- Dynamite
- MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)
- IDOL
Additionally, the Butter music video became the most-viewed video on YouTube within 24 hours of its debut, amassing a staggering 108.2 million views. This feat surpassed the group's own record of 101.1 million views previously held by their 2020 hit Dynamite.
Additionally, Butter broke the record for the largest premiere on YouTube, with 3.9 million concurrent viewers tuning in to watch its release, a record previously held by BTS.
Meanwhile, the band's fandom, ARMY, rejoiced over their latest achievement despite the group being inactive since mid-2022 due to their ongoing military enlistment. One fan used a lyric from Butter and altered it to laud the group's historic feat and wrote on X:
“Side step right left to the history!"
Supporters mentioned that the group's global "influence" was "unmatched."
"BTS really carried Kpops popularity," one fan wrote.
"Their influence is truly unmatched. 7 music videos with 1 billion views is a testament to their global fanbase and the power of K-pop," another fan said.
"That's amazing news! BTS's "Butter" music video reaching 1 billion views on YouTube is a huge achievement. Their music is so popular, and it's great to see their success!" one other fan added.
Others highlighted how the song broke BTS' previously held record with Dynamite.
"Damn I remember watching the logo trailer for 1hr straight," one fan recalled.
"Remember Butter broke Dynamite's record by getting 108 million views on YouTube in 24 hours," another fan shared.
"BTS did it under authentic “music category” not “people and blogs/ads”….." one fan emphasized.
BTS' Butter has broken multiple global records
Butter made waves on Spotify by earning 11.04 million global streams within the first 24 hours of its release. This achievement broke the record for the most single-day streams on the platform, surpassing the previous record held by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s collaboration, I Don’t Care.
The track debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and maintained the top spot for 10 consecutive weeks. It became the longest-running No. 1 single by a group in Billboard history since 1995. Additionally, the song topped the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, reflecting its worldwide appeal.
The song also dominated the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, reigning at No. 1 for multiple weeks. It marked the band as the only act to have several songs achieve extended runs at the chart’s summit.
The success of Butter earned BTS five Guinness World Records in its first week alone, including:
- Most-viewed music video in 24 hours on YouTube.
- Most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.
- Most-streamed song on Spotify within 24 hours of its release.
The song's accolades extended to major music award shows. At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Butter earned a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
The group also swept various fan-voted awards globally, including the American Music Awards, Asia Artist Awards, E! People's Choice Awards, Melon Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards, among others.
In other news, BTS' Namjoon, Jimin, Suga, Taehyung, and Jungkook are enlisted in the military and will return in June 2025 after completing 18 months of mandatory conscription. Band members Jin and j-hope were discharged from the military in June and October 2024, respectively.
