Sorry Not Sorry episode 1 recap: Ji Song-yi pretends to have a happy life before Choi Ha-na

The first episode of Sorry Not Sorry started with Ji Song-yi, who seemingly wishes to kill her ex-husband. Song-yi lives a miserable life as she is facing financial hardship after separation from her husband.

She got her newlywed house in alimony, therefore she was burdened with multiple loans, along with her house loan. She worked multiple part-time jobs, including as a coffee shop worker and a delivery rider, to pay off the mortgage installments.

One day, her younger sister, Ji Eun-kyu, unexpectedly showed up at her apartment with her son Jay. As shown in the flashback, Eun-kyu was also a single mother, who had not married, and lived in New York, America. Her parents were very angry about her decision to have a baby before getting married. Eun-kyu has come to Song-yi’s place to stay with her for a few days.

In the subsequent sequence of Sorry Not Sorry, Song-yi goes for a pizza delivery to an elite apartment. As she delivers the pizza, the owner comes out to collect the order and Song-yi realizes that it is her best friend from middle school, Choi Ha-na.

Ha-na is not able to see Song-yi’s face as she has a helmet on. Song-yi quickly runs away as she feels ashamed to meet Ha-na as a delivery person.

Later, Eun-kyu realizes that her sister is working hard to pay off her loans. So she offers Song-yi a deal in which she takes care of her son and in return Eun-kyu would pay half of the monthly installments. Song-yi accepts her offer and starts taking care of Jay like he is her own son.

One day, when Song-yi goes to Jay’s school to pick him up, she again encounters Ha-na. While Ha-na is trying to speak to Song-yi, Jay suddenly comes running and hugs Song-yi, calling her mother. This causes Ha-na to think that Jay is Song-gyi's son. After seeing her at Jay’s school, Ha-na texts Song-yi. She is in awe that Song-yi’s son could speak such fluent English.

Later, while playing with Jay, Song-yi reminisces about the series of events that culminated in her divorce. She had registered her marriage with a man she loved, and chose to live with her husband after their wedding ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, she had planned to surprise him. While she was cleaning his house, he entered the house with another woman. Song-yi catches them kissing, and decides to call off the wedding. After her separation, Song-yi had sought a formal divorce. While visiting a legal firm for her divorce, she also encountered a lawyer, Cha Hyun-woo.

Towards the conclusion of the first episode of Sorry Not Sorry, back in the present, Song-yi encounters problems with her toilet as foam emerged from it. She goes to the upper floor to confront the neighbour she thinks is to blame for this. Upon the gate's opening, she found that an ex-boyfriend of hers lives in that apartment. Sorry Not Sorry’s first episode ended here.

The second episode of Sorry Not Sorry is scheduled for December 12, 2024, via KBS Joy Network, alongside streaming platforms like Kocowa and Wavve.
