On December 6, 2024, BTS' Jungkook stirred the online community. BIGHIT MUSIC posted about BTS' Jimin featured on the cover of Spotify's Top Track & Artist 2024 KOREA lists. Although fans were delighted by Jimin's latest achievements, they were disappointed by BIGHIT MUSIC and HYBE for allegedly failing to acknowledge Jungkook's Spotify feats.
Fans claimed that although the Seven singer became the most-streamed K-pop soloist on the music streaming platform in 2022, 2023, and 2024, the company turned a blind eye to it. They accused BIGHIT MUSIC of allegedly "sabotaging" the musician's success. One fan wrote:
"HYBE HIRE PROFESSIONALS. BIG HIT CHANGE THE SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM. BIG HIT STOP SABOTAGING JUNGKOOK ACHIEVEMENTS. BIG HIT STOP SHADOWING JUNGKOOK RECORDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA"
Fans highlighted that the BTS singer was the most-streamed K-pop soloist on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
"JUNGKOOK IS UNSTOPPABLE!!! He's the No. 1 Most Streamed K-Pop Soloist globally on Spotify for 3 years in a row!" one fan boasted.
"I am so annoyed @bts_bighit @BIGHIT_MUSIC. You have an artist called #Jungkook who is the biggest kpop artist GLOBALLY and yet you mention nothing about him. Spotify is only 4.7% of the Korean music market. You have failed as his agency," another fan said.
"jungkook most streamed kpop soloist on all 3 major streaming platforms( 3rd consecutive year on Spotify), 2nd most streamed kpop act, had 2 songs in top 100 global songs of 2024 but apparently being on the cover of a khia platform in sk is more important," another fan wrote.
Others claimed that BIGHIT MUSIC didn't post about any of Jungkook's streaming achievements on their official accounts.
"Jungkook is the most streamed K-Pop soloist for 3 consecutive years on Spotify Wrapped. Also the most streamed K- Pop soloist in Apple Music & YouTube Music but I haven’t seen you making tweet like that for him. When are you going to start to show him proper respect @bts_bighit?" one fan commented.
"I find it weird that songs of the featuring artist are not there, yet you have him as the header - explain am I looking at different playlists. Shouldn't the number one song artist be the one that's featured?" another fan noted.
"Are you for real only celebrating one member topping SK . But not The one #1 in 3 platforms globally and being the most streamed kpop soloist for 3 consecutive years ! Hold my milk I need to laugh," one other fan retorted.
BTS' Jungkook's solo journey filled with record-breaking success
Since embarking on his solo career in 2023, Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, has firmly established himself. With his chart-topping singles, critically acclaimed album Golden, and an array of prestigious awards like the MTV VMAs, BBMAs, and more, his solo ventures from 2023 to 2024 broke several records.
His first major solo release, Seven featuring Latto, debuted on July 14, 2023, and became an instant global hit. The track simultaneously topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200 charts. The song maintained its position at the top for seven consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 and four weeks on the Global 200, making him the first Korean solo artist to achieve this feat.
Following Seven, the BTS idol released 3D featuring Jack Harlow in September 2023. This track debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. Both singles solidified his position as the first Korean soloist to have multiple entries in the top 10 of the Hot 100.
On November 3, 2023, he released his debut solo album, Golden, which included hits like Standing Next to You and Too Sad to Dance. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and Standing Next to You topped the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 (Excl. US) charts. The title track, Standing Next to You, charted for ten consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), he won "Song of the Summer" for Seven. He also received the Best K-Pop award at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), and his global impact earned him accolades at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), including “Top Global Artist.”
Jungkook's accomplishments have also earned him several Guinness World Records. These include being the first Korean solo artist to have the "most No. 1 hits on the official MENA chart" (Seven, 3D, and Standing Next to You) and the fastest Korean soloist to reach 1 billion Spotify streams in 109 days, breaking Miley Cyrus' previous record of 112 days.
