Sweet Home 3 starring Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, Go Min-si, Lee Do-hyun, and more premiered on Netflix on July 19, 2024, at 4 pm KST. It is based in a catastrophic setting where humans' evil desires turn them into monsters. Sweet Home, based on the webtoon adapted from the same name, created a huge buzz among the viewers with its pilot season released in 2020.

Sweet Home 3 introduces new characters, unfamiliar settings, and "neohumans," monsters with special abilities. While it answers questions from the previous season, it can be confusing due to increasing violence and complex subplots. However, it's an easy binge with a faster pace and the delightful reunion of season one characters played by Lee Do-hyun, Go Min-si, and Song Kang.

Sweet Home 3 review: Confusing conclusion to the apocalyptic horror drama series

With new characters in the second season, Sweet Home 3 promises to clear out any doubt showcasing how they were interconnected with each other.

This season showed more scenes featuring Song Kang’s Cha Hyun-su who was missing in most of the episodes of season two. However, his character seemed to be sidelined as it was overshadowed by the villain arc of Lee Jin-wook’s Nam Sang-won.

What keeps you hooked throughout the show is the performance of the actors, the exciting reunion of Lee Do-hyun and Go Min-si’s characters, and the interesting special monster child Yi-su (Kim Shi-ah).

Song Kang was exceptional in depicting his role as Cha Hyun-su. This time his interal battle with his one-wing monstrous side that attempted to take over his human side. One may slightly see his Sweet Demon character Gu Won in the Cha Hyun-su monster version.

Lee Jin-wook has played his changing roles remarkably throughout the show. From the gangster becoming a helping hand to the survivors (Sang-wook) in the pilot season then turning into a villain (Nam Sang-won) who would exploit everyone for his greed in the third one, Lee Jin-wook’s performance will keep you on your toes.

Meanwhile, Lee Si-young continued to portray her confident one-woman army character Seo Yi-kyung. With the emotional crisis she faced in the last season, Lee Si-young's performance touched my heart.

Fans may get excited to watch Go Min-si’s Lee Eun-yu reunite with her brother Lee Eun-hyuk (Lee Do-hyun). Lee Do-hyun’s entry in the second half created excitement and hopes of him teaming up with Song Kang were at an all-time high. Surprisingly, the climax appeared to be underwhelming despite Lee Do-hyun and Song Kang being present.

Moreover, Sweet Home 3 did not establish a clear line between the concept of humans, monsters, and neohumanism, as a viewer this may confuse you. Furthermore, the complicated types of monsters also built up an exhausting atmosphere to continue the series.

Sweet Home 3 ended hastily on a vaguely happy note which may disappoint the viewers not giving closure to the main characters including Go Min-si's Lee Eun-yu.
