The recent finale of Disney+’s fantasy K-drama Light Shop left viewers emotional and in awe. A major plot twist revealed that Won-young (Ju Ji-hoon) was actually the grandfather of Hyun-ju—making him the father of Hyun-Ju's mother, Yu-hee (Lee Jung-eun). This twist elevated the show's emotional weight and left many clamoring for a second season to explore the story further.

In the finale's pivotal scenes, Yu-hee, who tragically passed away in a bus accident while saving her daughter Hyun-ju, finds herself in the mystical shop—a place that exists between life and death. There, she meets Won-young, the shop’s owner. However, the reunion is bittersweet. Won-young doesn’t recognize her at first, as she has aged significantly since the last time he saw her as a child.

The tearful interaction unfolds as Yu-hee, through actions, reveals she is his daughter. This moment is especially poignant as it ties into Won-young’s backstory: decades earlier, he sacrificed his life to protect Yu-hee. Despite his role as the shopkeeper who guides lost souls, he had no idea he would encounter his daughter someday in this liminal space.

The revelation of Won-young’s connection to Hyun-ju and Yu-hee in the series sparked a wave of discussion online. One fan called it the "BIGGEST PLOT TWIST EVER" in the show and wrote on X:

"TF THE BIGGEST PLOT TWIST EVER, CAN U IMAGINE HOW LONG HE WAITED FOR HIS DAUGHTER TO COME HOME. MY HEART IS BROKEN INTO PIECES LORRDDD"

The relationship between Won-young and Yu-hee hit viewers hard. The father-daughter dynamic added depth to Won-young’s character, which viewers praised.

"When wonyeong realized that he's in the afterlife and bawled his eyes out and became guardian of light shop to save his daughter's life," one viewer wrote.
"And maybe that's why he's so cute when interracting with Hyunju... maybe because he felt like she is a family," another fan said.
"This is supposed to be a horror series, but here I am bawling my eyes out." one other fan added.

Fans have praised Ju Ji-hoon and Lee Jung-eun for their strong performances in these scenes, calling Lee Jung-eun a "brilliant actress."

"I thought to myself that he might had trade with the previous Light Shop guardian so he could give her the light and maybe wait for his daughter to come to the shop the near future which is they did find each other!" a viewer stated.
"You can literally see the minute Yoohee comes to the realization that Wonyoung is actually her dad, right after he takes off his glasses. Lee Jungeun the brilliant actress that you are," another viewer emphasized.
"Yoohee gesturing to Wonyoung that it’s actually her, his daughter Yoohee- then seeing the candy & the wrappers & using that to demonstrate since it’s their thing, also their last memory tgt. Oh this Lee Jungeun & Ju Jihoon acting excellence will not be forgotten," one fan stated.

Light Shop: A world between life and death

The final two episodes of Light Shop brought many storylines to a close while introducing unexpected emotional twists. In episode 7, the focus was on Hyun-ju's attempt to cope with her mother’s death and the mystery surrounding the light shop. Hyun-ju, burdened by guilt and grief, searches for answers about the supernatural events connected to her family.

Meanwhile, Yu-hee's actions during the bus accident, pushing her daughter out of harm's way, highlight her protective instincts as a mother. The episode also highlights Won-young’s struggle with his role as the light shop owner, hinting at his unresolved trauma related to his past.

In episode 8, Yu-hee’s arrival at the light shop shocked Won-young. She couldn't speak as her real body was being prepped for cremation in the real world, and as per Korean tradition, her mouth was stuffed with a cotton ball. Hence, Yu-hee's spirit in the light shop cries and tries to tell Won-young that she is his daughter.

The heartbreak deepens when Won-young reflects on his death decades earlier, which had been an act of love to save Yu-hee. Meanwhile, Hyun-ju, now struggling with her mother’s loss, finds hope through the light shop’s otherworldly interventions.

The finale ends with a bittersweet closure as Won-young and Yu-hee find peace and manage the shop together, yet Hyun-ju continues her journey in the mortal world, armed with her mother’s love and sacrifices.

As of now, Disney+ has not officially confirmed a second season for Light Shop. However, the series’ open-ended conclusion, combined with its growing popularity, has left fans hopeful. A continuation could further explore Hyun-ju’s journey and the unresolved mysteries surrounding the shop.
