On October 17, 2024, the former Day6 member eaJ expressed his thoughts on the situation surrounding the former member of RIIZE, Seunghan. He slams the OT6 followers for sending the former member death wreaths. While quoting someone else's tweet directed to him, eaJ said:
"The funeral flowers were disgusting. The same people who sent them will be the first ones online mourning the tragic outcome they fought for. God forbid tragedy occurs but I’ve been on that side before and It was close. I can’t imagine the trauma it would cause someone that young."
For those unversed, on October 11, 2024, upon the news of Seunghan's return to RIIZE, the 21-year-old received major backlash from RIIZe's Korean fans. They also sent death wreaths with the messages, "Pray for the peace of the deceased", "RIIZE is six", and "Hong Seunghan Out" as a sign of their disapproval.
Former Day6 member, eaJ, sympathizes with RIIZE's former member, Seunghan
Former Day6 member eaJ called out fans who sent the death wreaths and highlighted the tragedy that may befall as a consequence of wishing death on someone. He sympathized with Seunghan as he recalled his experience of being close to a disastrous outcome.
eaJ also advocated for trying the people who sent those death wreaths for attempted murder.
"Anyone involved in the flowers should be tried for attempted murder because that is what that was."
eaJ's statements attracted mixed reactions from K-pop fans as many allegedly believed that the artist was doing this to gain attention. However, his fans and other netizens supported and defended his statements.
"Yall want people in the industry to speak up until one that has experience actually does. Jae has always been outspoken about the importance of mental health, the dangerous side of parasocial relationships, and how shitty companies can be. Good on him for spreading awareness," an X user responded.
eaJ (formerly known as Jae) appeared as a guest on the Zach Sang Show in September 2024. When the interviewer asked him about his feelings on Day6's recent album Fourever, he honestly relayed his feelings. He replied, "It kinda hurt" because he felt he was "being erased" from the group's history.
However, during the interview, the Car Crash's singer stated that it is hard for him to watch any Day6 content because it reminds him of the hard times he had in the past. He also candidly shared that he experienced a tough time in South Korea and battled with anxiety.
As a mental health advocate, LA Trains' singer has openly spoken about his struggles with panic disorder and created the 'From Friends' project, which raised $100,000 for the Jed Foundation to provide free mental health resources. Many of his music and albums also showcase his mental health challenges, such as Laughing In Insomnia (2023) and Medicated Insomnia (2023).
In May 2020, after the release of Day6's sixth EP The Book of Us: The Demon, their company, JYP Entertainment announced that the members would be taking a hiatus. Jae (now eaJ) and Park Sungjin were advised to take a break from professional activities. eaJ left the group in 2021, while Day6 currently operates as a four-member group, which includes Sungjin, YoungK, Wonpil, and Dowoon.
Following backlash from Korean fans within 48 hours on October 13, SM Entertainment announced the departure of Seunghan from RIIZE. This resulted in worldwide protests against the unfair removal of the singer. Fans across the globe have been actively boycotting the products and activities of the group.
Recently, many global K-pop product suppliers have come to support the cause and have halted their distribution or sale of RIIZE's albums and merchandise.
