The Influencer: Release date, plot, cast, trailer, & all we know so far about Netflix’s upcoming survival show

The Netflix reality survival show, The Influencer will release on August 6, as announced by Netflix on July 9. The show pits 77 South Korean influencers against one another to see who can exert the most influence. It is created by Lee Jae-seok and Son Soo-jeong.

In a teaser trailer, Korean celebrities like Jang Geun-seok, influencers Risabae, Pani Bottle, Jin Yong-jin, Shim Euddeum, and Daedo Library, in addition to TikToker Xiajiu, who has 27.5 million followers, can be seen.

Following the worldwide success of other Korean reality shows including Physical: 100, Siren: Survive the Island, Zombieverse, and The Devil's Plan, Netflix has decided to bring another concept into the play with The Influencer. The show's concept gives a sense of the challenging and startling tasks that lie ahead.


The Influencer: Plot and trailer

The Influencer releases on August 6 and will have 77 contestants who have 120 million followers collectively on various social media sites, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and AfreecaTV.

In the teaser trailer of The Influencer, the contestants can be seen showcasing the number of followers they have, displayed on a band that they are wearing around their necks. The competition seems intense as the contestants are seen shaving their eyebrows, performing in fancy costumes and even bursting out crying.

Producer Lee Jae-seok, the show's creator, explained his idea behind the show. He said:

"I thought it would be interesting to gather influencers in one place who are divided based on algorithms. Along with witnessing the biggest influencers in Korea, you'll engage in never-before-seen social survival missions and unique entertainment delivered by Netflix's expansive scope and stunning visuals."

The Influencer: Cast and other details

The influencers range from well-known first-generation producers to Gen Z TikTokers with sizable followings throughout the globe. They will have to overcome several obstacles in order to be crowned 'the best influencer.'

While the names of all 77 influencers have not been released, among them some famous names can be found. One prominent figure is Jang Geun-seok, the South Korean actor and singer who appeared in You're Beautiful.

Another known face is Risabae, the Korean make-up YouTuber, and Pani Bottle, the travel YouTuber. Joining them will be Jin Yong-jin, film director, rapper, and YouTuber, Shim Euddeum, the pilates instructor and social media star who appeared in Physical: 100 season 1, and Xiajiu, the Tiktoker with 27.7 million followers.


Netflix sequels to look forward to this year

This year, Netflix released a few hit K-dramas such as Queen of Tears, Atypical Family, and The 8 Show. However, there is more to look forward to in the second quarter.

Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee will make a comeback in Gyeongseong Creature's second part. Instead of the past, the tale will take place in the present day. The show is expected to be released in the second half of the year.

Season 2 of Squid Game is also set to release this December. With Seong Gi-hun, Lee Jung-jae's character having unfinished business, the story continues as he tries to confront the orchestrators of the brutal game.

Sweet Home 3 is also expected to be released this month on July 19, 2024. The fight between monsters and humans takes a different turn now. Moreover, there is an unexpected twist as an enormously powerful monster emerges in the new season.

Netflix has also announced Hellbound Season 2 which is expected to release in the latter half of the year.
