On Monday, December 2, 2024, South Korean rapper Sleepy appeared on the SBS reality show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny, where he talked about BTS' Kim Namjoon, aka RM. Maeil Business Newspaper reported that the Grammy-nominated musician sent 10 million KRW (approximately $7,049.25 or INR 5.97 lakh) as a wedding gift when Sleppy got married.

Sleepy and his wife Kim Na-hyun—who have been married for three years—came on the SBS variety show and revealed how they never imagined owning an apartment in Seoul. Making light of the matter, Sleepy added that his wife's room was completed due to wedding money sent to them by the BTS idol.

As per the translation provided by Allkpop, Sleepy said:

"I never thought I’d be able to live in an apartment like this. Of course, it’s not owned outright. My wife is 33 years old and still qualifies for youth loans, which helped us secure the deposit."

He continued:

"This home was made possible thanks to the congratulatory money from many celebrities. Kim Gu Ra, Seo Jang Hoon, and Lee Hyun contributed to Woo Ah’s room, while the master bedroom was practically gifted by RM."

Sleepy shared that he met Namjoon when the idol was in middle school. The rapper took RM to HYBE (formerly BigHit Entertainment), where the latter auditioned and later debuted as the leader of BTS in 2013.

Furthermore, Sleepy joked that due to the wedding congratulatory money received from the BTS idol, his apartment's room actually belongs to RM. Maeil Business Newspaper quoted the rapper saying:

"When I saw RM in middle school, I connected him to HYBE. Thanks to that relationship, I received such great help. The room is actually RM's."

More about BTS' RM's solo releases: A comparative look at Indigo and Right Place, Wrong Person

Since embarking on his solo career, Kim Namjoon (RM) has created waves with his deeply introspective and genre-defying albums. His debut solo album, Indigo (2022), and the follow-up, Right Place, Wrong Person (2024), showcased the artist's evolution, exploring contrasting themes, lyrical depth, and sonic experimentation.

Indigo, released in December 2022, marked Namjoon's first full-length studio album. It debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and later re-entered at No. 3 following its physical release. This made him the highest-charting Korean soloist on the Billboard 200, surpassing his previous record with the mono (mixtape), which peaked at No. 26.

Songs like Still Life (feat. Anderson .Paak) and Wild Flower (with Youjeen) from Indigo earned critical acclaim for their poignant themes and genre-blending. Indigo is marked by its experimental soundscapes, seamlessly blending rap, jazz, and indie influences. Tracks like Yun (featuring Erykah Badu) lean on jazz fusion, while Still Life incorporates funk and retro elements.

Namjoon described Indigo as the "last archive of my 20s," reflecting on identity, creativity, and the passage of time. Tracks like Wild Flower discussed his struggles with fame, balancing artistic authenticity with global stardom.

The album integrated storytelling with collaborations, including Anderson .Paak, Erykah Badu, Paul Blanco, Mahalia, and Tablo created a fusion of hip-hop, R&B, and Korean indie sounds.

Thematically, Right Place, Wrong Person took a more introspective turn, focusing on interpersonal relationships and the conflicts of human connection. Namjoon's lyrics in tracks like Come back to me, out of love, and Nuts delved into themes of misaligned timing, heartbreak, and self-reconciliation.

Released in May 2024, Right Place, Wrong Person included 11 tracks with a focus on personal relationships, regret, and self-discovery. The album has a more somber tone, leaning heavily on acoustic arrangements and stripped-down instrumentals. His collaborations with British rapper Little Simz and American singer Moses Sumney were one of the highlights of the record.

In other news, Namjoon enlisted in the 15th Infantry Division of the South Korean military on December 11, 2023. Reportedly, he graduated as one of the four Elite Soldiers out of 800 recruits in January 2024 and will be discharged in June 2025.
