The Midnight Romance in Hagwon starring Wi Ha-joon and Jung Ryeo-won aired episodes 11 and 12 on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday 16, on tvN. The drama follows the story of a renowned academy instructor and her pupil who recently became her colleague.
Seo Hye-jin is a Korean literature instructor with an impressive 14 years of experience in the high school academy industry. Lee Jun-ho is her former student who got accepted at an esteemed university and landed a job at a renowned corporation.
However, to pursue his love, Lee Jun-ho joined Daechi Chase Academy, where Seo Hye-jin works with a sound plan for his future as an instructor. The Midnight Romance in Hagwon showcases their brewing romance at the academy.

In episode 11, Daechi Chase Academy Director Kim Hyun-tak (Kim Jong-tae) asks Vice Director Woo Seung-eui (Kim Jung-young) to look into Pyo Sang Seob (Kim Song-il) who has gotten an offer for the position of Vice Director at the rival academy Daechi Chaesun.
8 years ago, Kim Hyun-tak acquired Woo Seung-eui's academy. This time, Woo Seung-eui planned to take revenge against him, knowing if Seo Hye-jin (Jung Ryeo-won) left the academy, it would be an immense loss to Kim Hyun-Tak.
Woo Seung-eui offered a USB drive with 10 years worth of documents to Daechi Chaesun Academy director Choi Hyeong-seon (Seo Jung-yeon) for Pyo Sang-seob. The USB drive included a compilation of important notes, questions, and more prepared by Seo Hye-jin for her students. The Daechi Chaesun Academy director asked Woo Seung-eui to give it directly to Pyo Sang-seob.
In the same episode of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, Lee Jun-ho deleted the Korean literature textbook and the same day its first draft arrived at the academy, which he tried to destroy through the shredder. He believed that the content in the textbook was outdated because of the method he used to make it and that he could do better.
As Seo Hye-jin saw him destroying the first draft, the two got into a huge argument. Lee Jun-ho wanted the students to understand and feel each paragraph and eventually learn to enjoy Korean literature. Meanwhile, Seo Hye-jin disagreed with him as the techniques and strategies used at the academy mainly focused on improving the student's grades.
Following this, Pyo Sang-seob refused to accept the USB drive and instead met Seo Hye-jin at her friend’s restaurant to let her know about Woo Seung-eui’s plan. Seo Hye-jin was stunned by Woo Seung-eui’s move. Later, Lee Jun-ho joined them and seemed upset as the last time Pyo Sang-seob tried to provoke Seo Hye-jin with his words.
Lee Jun-ho then continued the argument about the changes in the teaching method and the content of the textbook. While Seo Hye-jin did not agree with Lee Jun-ho, Pyo Sang-seob found his method interesting. Lee Jun-ho apologized to Pyo Sang-seob for his rude behavior at the restaurant.
In Episode 12 of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, Lee Jun-ho, who was supposed to drop Seo Hye-jin at home, made a spontaneous plan to go see the sunrise at a beach. He drove all night, and they missed the sunrise as he fell asleep as soon as they reached there. However, they found a solution to their issue. Seo Hye-jin agreed that Lee Jun-ho should teach his students by his methods.
However, she asked him to be accountable for this recent practice, as the student’s grades are at stake. Although the two mostly discussed work, this marked their first date at the beach and highlighted their romance in this scene. As they got over their differences and enjoyed their date. Moreover, Seo Hye-jin asked Lee Jun-ho to explain his plans to his parents as they were concerned about his future, as she wished for her partner to be a dutiful son as well.
Viewers later find Woo Seung-eui calling Seo Hye-jin for dinner in secret and revealing her retirement plans. However, she threatened Seo Hye-jin to leave Daechi Chase Academy with her using the USB Drive, as her plan did not work with Pyo Sang-seob. The offer baffled Seo Hye-jin, and she stated she needed time.
Seo Hye-jin attended Pyo Sang-seob's free lecture and told him she learned a lot from his class. Following Lee Jun-ho’s class where he used the audio-visual method of feeling the text before reading it. Seo Hye-jin was convinced that even though she thought using an impactful method in the past fourteen years, Lee Jun-ho's method was refreshing and would be beneficial in the current scenario.
By the end of episode 12, Seo Hye-jin declined Woo Seung-eui’s offer, asking her to use the USB Drive however she wanted in their second meeting. She also called Choi Hyeong-seon to the meeting, leaving Woo Seung-eui in shock. It is yet to be seen what happens next.
