The Trunk, starring Gong Yoo, Seo Hyun-jin, Lee Jung-eun, and more, aired on November 29, 2024, on Netflix. The series is based on the story of Han Jeong-won, depicted by Gong Yoo, and his contract-married wife Noh In-ji, played by Seo Hyun-jin.
Han Jeong-won is a music producer with a traumatic past, living an anxious and lonely life. He still longs for his ex-wife Lee Seo-yeon, played by Jung Yun-ha, who set him up with the contract marriage agency Nin M to meet his new wife, just for one year tenure.
Meanwhile, Noh In-ji is an employee at NM who meets her fifth client, Han Jeong-won, who is completely different from her previous clients. However, one day, the police find a mysterious trunk at a lake, which will open the Pandora box of NM's secret.

In the final episode of The Trunk, the killer of Eom Tae-seong (Kim Dong-won) was found to be Yun Ji-o (Jo Yi-geon), while the series closed with an open ending as to whether Han Jeong-won and Noh In-ji end up together or not. However, the renewal of the K-drama is highly unlikely and Netflix has not confirmed any news about the series getting a second season.
The Trunk ending explained: NM's secret is saved due to Noh In-ji’s trunk
In episode 8 of The Trunk, Han Jeong-won learned that Lee Seo-yeon planted a hidden camera at his house. They get into an argument where he confronts her for doing the same thing his father did to his mother. He was devastated and left the place. Meanwhile, Noh In-ji saw the broken chandelier with a hidden camera and started searching for Han Jeong-won.
Noh In-ji found him on the street drenched in rainwater and suggested they go for a trip. Although it seemed they both liked each other, Noh In-ji decided to breach the contract and asked him for a divorce. After the contract was terminated, Noh In-ji departed NM, and Han Jeong-won could not contact her. He could not take NM's help or find her at Seo Do-ha's (Lee Ki-woo) house.
Later, Han Jeong-won decided to move out of his house and Eom Tae-seong took the chance and entered his house. He disguised himself as one of the movers and stole the trunk that had NM's manual and Noh In-ji and Han Jeong-won’s contract.
He then called Noh In-ji because he could not open the trunk. He threatened her that he would leak the documents and expose NM's existence. Noh In-ji went to the lake where she practiced kayaking and met Eom Seong. She could not open the trunk and realized that it was not the one she owned but the one Lee Seo-Yeon had. Eom Tae-seong went berserk because he believed she was lying and pulled out a knife.
Han Jeong-won also reached the lakeside as Eom Tae-seong had threatened him. He was about to attack Han Jeong-won but Noh In-ji saw Han Jeong-won carrying a gun and shot Eom Tae-seong in her defense. However, he dodged the bullets and ran away.
In the next scene, Noh In-ji explained the situation to the cops. Meanwhile, the same night, Lee Seo-yeon returned home as she was finally convinced she had a better relationship with Yun Ji-o. However, Yun Ji-o told her that he was the one who killed Eom Tae-seong.
Yun Ji-o explained that he used to be a keeper at NM who protected the employees from harmful situations. Eom Tae-seong, being Noh In-ji’s stalker, snapped the head of one of the keepers, who was also Yun Ji-o's colleague, but he could not do anything at the moment.
Yun Ji-o felt like he killed his colleague, so this time, he decided to use his fencing sword to kill Eom Tae-seong. Lee Seo-yeon turned a blind eye during the police questioning and said that she knew nothing about the incident.
Meanwhile, Noh In-ji collected her stuff from Han Jeong-won's house before bidding farewell; she learned that he was going to demolish the house. Furthermore, Han Jeong-won, who still wanted her to stay with him, told her if they coincidentally met twice after this, then they would have to be with each other. Noh In-ji did not respond but expressed her gratitude towards Han Jeong-won.
The Trunk season 2 renewal possibilities explored
In The Trunk episode 7, Seo Do-ha and Noh In-ji got closure to their called-off engagement. Yun Ji-o was also caught by the police in the final episode. Meanwhile, Lee Seo-yeon ran into Han Jeong-won at the label and told him that she decided to sign another marriage contract with Yun Ji-o and that she hired a lawyer to support him.
Han Jeong-won moved into a new apartment and started raising cats, while Noh In-ji also found a new place where she lived with her dog. The Trunk ended with a scene where Noh Min-ji ran into Han Jeong-won at a pathway, and they appeared to be happy to see each other. Noh In-ji reminded him that it was their first time meeting after a while.
The two characters running into each other for the second time was not showcased and it is also unclear whether NM's existence was made public. However, all the mysteries regarding the murder were solved. This lowers the chance of a second-season renewal of The Trunk. Notably, nothing has been confirmed by Netflix yet.
