The Tyrant cast & character guideline: Who is playing who in the Disney+ drama?

On July 25, 2024, Disney+ released the official character trailer of its upcoming drama, The Tyrant. The K-Drama features South Korean stars Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho, Kim Kang-woo, and Jo Yeon-su to narrate the plot.

Meanwhile, the latest trailer reveals the characters of all four lead actors. Cha Seung-won plays Lim Sang, Kim Seon-ho as Director Choe, Kim Kang-woo as Paul, and Jo Yoon-su plays Chae Jag-yeong. The plot revolves around "The Tyrant" project which brings the four leads to war with each other.

Forbes reported that director Park Hoon-jung—well-known for The Witch series — turned a movie script into a four-part series. Each part will focus on the backstory of each lead actor. The Tyrant will premiere on Disney+ on August 14, 2024.

The Tyrant: Disney+ K-drama's cast & character description

The Tyrant focuses on the undercover world of spies, and secret services weaved in lies and deceit. The series centers on a covert South Korean government-backed experiment to increase superhuman skills. This takes a turn for the worse when US spy agents discover the secret about the bioweapon.

The United States intelligence agencies sought all samples and asked South Korea to terminate "The Tyrant" project. However, before the negotiation's fruition, the bioweapon goes missing. As a result, agents from both nations set out on a perilous quest to retrieve it and are ready to do everything to stop the other.

Here's the list of the drama's four main lead actors:

1) Cha Seung-won as Lim Sang

Cha Seoung-won portrays Lim Sang, who used to be a former agent. He shows up as a freelancing mercenary on hire and is tasked to eliminate all forces associated with "The Tyrant" project. Lim Sang is a cold-blooded mercenary, who would stop at nothing to complete his mission.

Cha Seoung-won is known for his roles in the famous drama Our Blues and the crime-action film Believer 2.

2) Kim Seon-ho as Director Choe

Director Choe, played by Kim Seon-ho, orders his staff to retrieve the bioweapon. He is the mastermind and highly skilled individual of the South Korean government's project. Director Choe carries out the project's research covertly even after receiving orders to stop.

Kim Seon-ho was previously seen in the popular slice-of-life drama, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and the thriller movie The Childe.

3) Kim Kang-woo as Paul

Kim Kang-woo portrays the role of Paul, an agent associated with the United States' intelligence agencies. Paul sets out to steal the project and uses underhanded methods to achieve his goal. However, it is yet to be discovered if he has an ulterior motive regarding the bioweapon.

Kim Kang-woo was previously seen in the Disney+ K-Drama, Wonderful World, and played an antagonist in the Amazon Prime Video thriller film, The Childe.

4) Jo Yoon-su as Chae Jag-yeong

Jo Yoon-su portrays Ja-kyung, a technician that Director Choi assigns to pilfer "The Tyrant" project's last samples. Ja-kyung is well known in the undercover world. However, her identity is shrouded in mystery. Ja-kyung is a merciless killer and doesn't hesitate to carry out her orders.

Jo Yoon-su is a South Korean rising star and was previously The Interest of Love, True Beauty, and Juvenile Justice.
