Disney+ K-drama The Tyrant serves as a nail-biting thriller series that leaves viewers asking for more
The Tyrant shows Kim Seon-ho team up with Kim Kang-woo again after their hit Amazon Prime film, The Childe. Kim Seon-ho plays the shrewd and calculative Director Choi, who is known for his dangerous reputation. He wouldn't stop at anything to see the "Tyrant" project live to its fruition.
Kim Kang-woo plays Paul from the US Intelligence, who is hellbent on getting his hands on the superhuman serum. Cha Seung-won portrays the retired agent, Lim Sang, who has turned into a mercenary. He has been hired by Director Choi's men to kill anyone who could jeopardize the safety of the serum.
Jo Yoon-su as Chae Ja-gyeong is also known as Mr. Chae's daughter in The Tyrant. She has split personality disorder and is known for her lethal combative skills. However, she gets infected by the "Tyrant" virus at the end of episode 4. Director Choi is surprised when the virus cohabits within her body and despite having control of her brain, Ja-gyeong fully retains her human nature and traits.
The end credits hint at the possibility of Ja-gyeong already having been infected by the virus when she was a kid. The ending shows a little Ja-gyeong from 15 years back, showing up at Mr. Chae's shop unannounced in the dead of the night. The show clearly reveals that she was later adopted by Mr. Chae as he mentions a nun, hinting at the possibility of Ja-gyeong being an orphan.
As Mr. Chae turns around to fix her some food, Ja-gyeong's eyes turn black, and the camera cuts. This sets the foundation for a probable revelation in part 2 about how Ja-gyeong must have always been affected by the virus. This further explains how she could tolerate physical injuries, was extremely fast and strong, and even survived gunshots.
Meanwhile, Director Choi (Kim Seon-ho) shoots himself at the end of the show. This could either mean that he would return in part 2 as an infectant of the "Tyrant" virus, or his chapter is indeed closed with part 1.
However, it should be noted that Director Choi's return has the highest possibility since he is the mastermind and the architect behind the superhuman serum and his backstory and goals are yet to be revealed. Only The Tyrant part 2 could reveal the reality behind Ja-gyeong's existence and Director Choi's death.
The Tyrant is available on Disney+ for global streaming.
