On December 21, 2024, the BTS ARMY turned X (formerly Twitter) into a battlefield of wit and humor, as fans hilariously role-played the group’s iconic songs and took playful jabs at one another.

Using tracks like DDAENG, Butter, Reflection, Dynamite, Dimple, Polar Night, ON ft. SIA, FIRE, We are Bulletproof, and Boy with Luv, among others, ARMY created accounts pretending to be each song, waging a mock war with creative memes and tweets that quickly went viral.

This trend showcased ARMY’s deep connection to BTS’ discography and the fandom's knack for humor. Accounts such as "@Butter7" and "@REFLECTION" playfully roasted one another, referencing song lyrics and achievements to claim superiority.

For instance, "Butter"—a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper—mocked others for not reaching the same level of global recognition. Furthermore, DDAENG, a fan-favorite hip-hop track was hilariously roasted by others for not being available on Spotify.

One fan wrote on X:

"The war has started everyone"

Hilarious memes flooded the social media app as each account reacted with innovative tweets.

"One spin in the microwave and you are gone," a fan cosplaying as the song We Are Bulletproof Pt.1 wrote in response to the hit song Butter.
"EVERYONE SIT DOWN..I WATCHED YOU ALL BIRTH AND GROWTH..GIMME ME RESPECT I DESERVE," the account cosplaying as 2013 hit No More Dream other wrote.
"Imagine being written by Namjoon, I feel so lucky everyday," the account for 2017 song Dimple wrote.

Others joined the ongoing online shenanigans with similar reactions.

"If ON ft.SIA paid me MONEY I would've said the same," another fan wrote.
"GIRL ARE YOU FOR REAL??? Like queen is right here," another fan added for Dynamite.

More about the BTS songs used by ARMY for the online faux battle

BTS released an impressive array of songs over the years, giving ARMY plenty of material to work with during this faux battle. Dynamite, released in August 2020, became the group’s first song to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying at the top for three non-consecutive weeks. Similarly, Butter, released in May 2021, dominated the same chart for 10 weeks.

Songs like Dimple, from the 2017 album Love Yourself: Her, and ON ft. SIA, the title track from their 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7, also played a part in the fandom’s comedic skirmishes. While Dimple was praised for its flirtatious lyrics, ON highlighted BTS's anthemic style and SIA's collaboration added international flair.

Meanwhile, DDAENG, a 2018 track released as part of a BTS FESTA celebration, gained a cult following for its clever wordplay and references to Korean culture.

Tracks like Boy with Luv featuring Halsey, and Polar Night, from D-DAY, BTS' Suga's solo debut album, further displayed the band’s versatility, providing ARMY with ample inspiration to craft memes and engaging Twitter content.

Beyond their music, BTS has been recognized worldwide for leading K-pop to international success. They have appeared on the cover of TIME magazine as "Entertainer of the Year" (2020), delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in partnership with UNICEF in 2021, and addressed anti-Asian hate at the White House in 2022.

In June 2022, BTS announced a brief hiatus as a group to allow its members to focus on solo projects. The announcement came after the release of Proof, an anthology album celebrating their career and featuring new tracks.

Following South Korea's mandatory military service requirements, BTS members began enlisting, starting with Jin in December 2022. All seven members are expected to complete their service by 2025. Meanwhile, Jin and j-hope returned to civilian life in June and October 2024, respectively.
