BLACKPINK’s Rosé finally released her first solo album, Rosie, on December 6, featuring toxic till the end as the title track. The three-minute fifty-second music video of the song was dropped via Rosé’s YouTube channel. The MV of the song featured American actor and model Evan Mock as ‘The Ex’ of Rosé. The video was delivered as a short story corresponding to its title, toxic till the end.
Upon the release of the song, fans promptly identified numerous elements in the music video, resulting in considerable online traction for the song. The music video contained several components that fans discussed since they appeared to have some real-life inspirations.
According to recent interviews, the tracks on BLACKPINK's Rosé's album were somewhat influenced by her personal experiences. Consequently, this heightened fan curiosity, prompted fans to meticulously examine and decode various elements of the song, including Tiffany rings, punctured tires, the filming location, Rosé's outfits, and more.
From Coachella outfits to filming location: 6 decoded theories of BLACKPINK’s Rosé’s toxic till the end MV
1) Tiffany Rings
The lyrics of toxic till the end mentioned Rosé’s Tiffany rings that were taken away by The Ex.
"I can forgive you for a lot of things, for not giving me back my tiffany rings,” track’s lyrics stated.
Fans speculated that these rings were actually taken away by Rosé’s ex and these were not merely lyrics.
“my theory is rose's ex did actually steal her tiffany rings. She just said he didn't to make fans believe not everything in her songs has a meaning,” a fan commented.
Contrarily, BLACKPINK’s Rosé debunked this theory during her recent podcast interview with Hits Radio UK on December 6. She stated that not all her lyrics have meaning.
2) Filming location
Some fans pointed out that the filming location of the song appeared similar to that seen in the American TV show Gossip Girl. A fan speculated that the house shown in Rosé’s MV is the one shown as Nate’s family house in the American show.
“It is indeed ! Toxic till the end was filmed at the same location ! Nate family house in gossip Girl !,” a fan stated.
For those unaware, the male protagonist of the toxic till the end, Evan Mock, earlier played Aki Menzies in Gossip Girl. Consequently, fans said that Rosé took reference from Evan’s TV show.
3) Punctured tires and the car scene
The music video for toxic till the end begins with a scene of Rosé and The Ex's initial encounter. While going somewhere, she encountered The Ex, who had lost his way and had punctured bicycle tires. Subsequently, Rosé gave him a ride, and they began their journey.
Subsequently in the video, it was shown that The Ex intentionally deflated his bicycle tire to solicit a ride from Rosé.
Towards the end, as Rosé walked out abandoning The Ex, she attempted to start her car, but the engine failed to function. Fans speculated that The Ex orchestrated the entire thing. The initial burst tires and car scene were intentionally arranged by The Ex, according to a netizen.
“Rosé walked out and started the engine of her car but it won't start. On the other hand the guy did it. The smirk tells it all. The outro of the song starts, mv shows that he let the air out of his bicycle wheel, planned it all along,” stated a fan.
4) The Ex’s cheating theories
There was another scene where The Ex and Rosé played chess. While they were playing, The Ex tried to hide the phone's screen, as if he wanted Rosé not to see his messages. Fans suggested that The Ex was cheating on Rosé because of this sequence.
“oh i just noticed he was hiding his phone notifications from her which is why she got so angry..... he cheated on her,” a fan noted.
On the contrary, some fans stated that it was Rosé’s phone. Fans mentioned that The Ex was trying to manipulate and control Rosé as he silenced her notifications and wrecked her car before she could even leave.
“I think it's actually HER phone. Mf was trying to trap her with him. Silenced her notifications, spoilt her car and even made her pass out so she wouldn't leave that's insane. He's so psychotic,” another fan speculated.
5) Coachella outfit resemblance
Rosé wore a sparkly concert-like outfit as she left The Ex after an argument over phone notifications. Fans immediately linked the plot to Rosé's earlier interviews, where she shared her 20s experiences. She recounted a heated argument with her ex before a concert in an Apple Music podcast dated December 4, 2024.
Viewers remarked that her MV argument scene outfit mimics her 2019 Coachella stage dress, suggesting that her emotional issues may coincide with the festival.
“It gives me concert vibes. Maybe she confronted him after concert. Coachella???,” a fan speculated.
6) Both Rosé and The Ex were toxic
At the start of the video, The Ex appeared toxic, but later many fans speculated that both Rosé and The Ex were toxic for each other. As stated above, The Ex deliberately punctured tires and damaged Rosé’s car. Several fans came out and stated that Rosé was equally toxic as she loosened the bolt of The Ex’s skateboard, which caused him injury as he fell while skateboarding.
“FOR GOD’S SAKE, OMG I JUST REALIZED THEY’RE BOTH MANIPULATIVE & TOXIC! Rosé intentionally loosened the bolts on his skateboard just to make him fall so she could take care of him. Meanwhile, he deliberately messed w/ her car to make it break down & smoking. What a pair!,” a fan wrote.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé’s latest album, Rosie, features a total of twelve songs. APT. and Number One Girl were the pre-release songs, while toxic till the end is the main track of her record.
