On December 18, 2024, BTS' Jungkook hosted a Weverse livestream where he gave his fans a tour of his new house and also held a solo karaoke session. He performed songs like APT. by BLACKPINK's Rosé and Bruno Mars, BTS' Taehyung's Winter Ahead, and Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars' Die for You, and more.

However, one moment from the livestream stole the show when he hilariously mistook the Korean band, DAY6, as his seniors.

When fans requested Jungkook to sing a DAY6 track, the global superstar praised the band’s music but commented on how their songs feature "really high" octaves. He also addressed DAY6 as "sunbae-nim", which means someone who is a senior. This sparked laughter and affectionate reactions from fans online.

One fan wrote:

"Addressed hoobae as sunbae. Time is an illusion for them.."

Fans on social media playfully reacted to Jungkook’s mix-up.

"The way he stuttered mentioning day6 as his sunbaenim is taking me out cause he probably thought day6 members have the same age as epik high," one fan wrote.
"Just bcs theyre older doesn't mean they're ur sunbaenim," another fan wrote.
"Day6 debut : 2015. BTS Debut : 2013. JUNGKOOK YOU ARE THE SUNBAE!!!" one other fan noted.

Several other fans reacted the same way over the K-pop idol's "sunbae-nim" comment.

"We need to get beomgyu to give them a day6 history class," one fan said.
"“yeppeosseo is day6 sunbaenim’s… they’re our sunbaenim right? they must be…” BRO LITERALLY FORGOT BTS DEBUTED 2 YEARS BEFORE DAY6," another fan reacted.
"Maybe it’s beacuase the day6’s members are older than him jungkook borned in 1997 and the day6’s members borned in 1993 1994 and the maknae borned in 1995 so the are older than him," another fan added.

More about BTS and DAY6' legacy in the music industry

BTS debuted on June 13, 2013, under BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE Corporation). In comparison, DAY6 debuted on September 7, 2015, under JYP Entertainment.

While the band arrived two years after BTS, they have carved out their unique identity as a genre-defying rock band within the Korean music industry.

DAY6, initially composed of five members, gained attention for blending elements of pop and alternative rock. Their album Sunrise (2017), featuring hits like I Smile and How Can I Say, cemented their position in the Korean music scene. They continued to innovate with albums like The Book of Us series, receiving critical acclaim for their introspective lyrics and versatile sound.

While DAY6 achieved prominence within their niche, BTS skyrocketed to global fame. With record-breaking albums like Map of the Soul: 7 and BE, the K-pop group holds the title of the first K-pop of group to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Their No. 1 singles include:

  1. Dynamite
  2. Butter
  3. Permission to Dance
  4. Life Goes On
  5. My Universe

The Dynamite group has also won multiple American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and earned 5 Grammy nominations. Beyond their music, the group has left a lasting impact with their advocacy for self-love and mental health, highlighted by their 2018 UNICEF speech at the United Nations.

They are also the first and only Korean/K-pop group to visit the White House to address anti-Asian hate crimes in 2022.

Meanwhile, Jungkook released his debut solo album, Golden, in November 2024. The album features Billboard chart-topping tracks like Seven and Standing Next to You, among others.
