On January 7, 2025, a recent incident involving Indian interviewer Sakshma Srivastava ignited a heated discussion among K-pop fans, particularly between the BTS ARMY and BIGBANG supporters. The controversy centered on Sakshma Srivastava's alleged comments regarding the "paved the way" debate between the two K-pop groups, leading to significant backlash from BTS fans.

For the unversed, in a New Year's interview with CNN, Taeyang reflected on BIGBANG's influence in the global music scene, stating:

"Thankfully, we were able to open doors to global markets for many K-pop groups that came after us, and they can perform on world-famous stages. I wouldn't say we pioneered that, but it feels great to see that our efforts have played a part in that."

Following the interview, on January 4, BIGBANG Taeyang's social media platforms, particularly Instagram, were inundated with comments from individuals asserting that "BTS paved the way." Many of these comments appeared under his recent posts, leading to a digital clash between supporters of both groups.

Meanwhile, on January 6, 2025, Sakshma Srivastava, known for her interviews with various K-pop artists, including BTS, reportedly posted on the Threads app and wrote:

Her post was perceived by some BTS fans as undermining the Grammy-nominated group's contributions to the international K-pop scene.

The BTS ARMY expressed their displeasure across social media platforms. Many fans felt that Sakshma Srivastava's comments, along with Taeyang's alleged statement, diminished BTS' achievements. Calls for a formal apology from Sakshma Srivastava have been widespread, with hashtags demanding accountability trending on platforms like X.

"@MirrorNow @TimesNow @ZoomTV this is to inform you that @SakshmaSr known for her interviews with Foreign artists on zoom, got involved in a fanwar & made judgements against BTS ARMY. We see this as highly UNPROFESSIONAL & IRRESPONSIBLE. We want a properly written apology," wrote one BTS fan.

Fans lashed out at her for "meddling in fan wars" without knowing the root of the issue"

"A basic research would have cost her absolutely nothing. APOLOGISE TO ARMYS," one fan wrote.
"Seriously, Sakshma? @SakshmaSr Where were you when BTS was being dragged by other K-pop groups? ARMYs defended them with facts. If you're going to speak on this, at least fact-check first. Do your research before jumping into fanwars." another fan wrote.
"Influencers and public figures meddling in fanwars without knowing the root of the issue are so unclassy and unprofessional," one other fan added.

Others questioned her professionalism as a public figure and interviewer.

"God the audacity.. no one had any idea who the hell she was before BTS.. now she is concerned about a few people (God knows who) commenting something bad about Big bang? Where was she when BTS was getting hate from all the 101 nugu K-pop groups . No army or BTS no clout," one fan said.
"Media literacy today is so fvcked up that even influencers involve themselves in matters they have absolutely NO knowledge about," another fan retorted.
"Isn't she the influencer??? Why tf she's poking her nose in fanwars when she knows nothing," one other fan commented.

In June 2021, the Indian television host and producer Sakshma Srivastav conducted a notable interview with global K-pop sensation BTS, garnering widespread acclaim for her insightful questions and respectful demeanor. The interview was broadcast on India's Times Network.

Her approach stood out for its depth and personalization. She engaged each BTS member with tailored questions, delving into their individual contributions and creative processes.

For instance, she discussed with Jin the balance between his visual appeal and musical talents, prompting him to reflect on how his looks complement his skills. With Suga, she explored the challenges of channeling personal struggles into music, leading to a candid discussion about the therapeutic aspects of songwriting.

J-Hope shared insights into the group's future aspirations, emphasizing their desire to inspire and connect with audiences worldwide. RM elaborated on the pressures of constantly reinventing their music and concepts to meet global expectations.

Jimin reflected on the evolution of his vocal style and the importance of authenticity in their performances. V and Jungkook also shared personal anecdotes, contributing to a comprehensive portrayal of the group's dynamics.

However, this isn't the first time she has faced criticism from certain fan factions. In 2021, she addressed harassment from solo stans after her interview with BTS, calling out toxic behavior within the fandom.

Meanwhile, BIGBANG, debuting in 2006, significantly influenced the genre with its music and style, contributing to K-pop's early international exposure. BTS, debuting in 2013, achieved unprecedented global success, including topping international charts and becoming the first and only Korean and Asian group to earn Grammy nominations.

As of now, neither Sakshma Srivastava nor Taeyang has issued a public statement addressing the controversy. The situation highlights the sensitivity surrounding discussions of K-pop's global impact and the fervor of fan loyalty.
