According to SWTV, a Korean news outlet, MBC's latest drama When The Phone Rings will be extending its fifth episode by 10 minutes on December 6. This news comes amid the show ranking second on Netflix worldwide, gradually jumping from its fourth position last week.
When The Phone Rings starring Yoo Yoon-seok and Chae Soo-bin peaked at first place in 33 countries including South Korea as soon as it was released. It also entered the Top 10 charts in 78 countries around the world, proving its global popularity.
Last week the show observed 3.3 million views on Netflix, making it the series with the highest first-week viewership for a non-original Netflix drama.
When The Phone Rings concludes filming of the show
On November 30, 2024, the cast and crew of When The Phone Rings ended the filming of the series. The series was filmed in a span of five months from June 29 to November 30. The entire cast and crew celebrated the end of the series with a wrap-up party.
One of the directors of the show, Park Sang-woo, posted an Instagram story commemorating the wrap of the series, captioning it:
"2024.06.29-11.30 <When the Phone Rings> filming ends,"
Plot of the series
The series narrates the story of a couple stuck in a politically arranged marriage. Chae Soo-bin takes up the role of Hong Hee-ju, who is suffering from selective mutism. She works at a media outlet as a sign language interpreter. She is married to Baek Sa-eon, who is a dynamic spokesperson for the Korean government.
People are glued to the series for the chemistry between the main leads and the thrilling plot. When The Phone Rings contains numerous intense and angsty moments that have aided the series' gradual climb in popularity, domestically and globally.
When The Phone Rings has been ranking upwards ever since its release two weeks ago on November 22. Kim Ji-woon gave words to the series with the co-direction by Pank Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-gyu. However, the inspiration behind this series is a popular Kakao Page web novel, The Number You Have Dialed, by Geon Eomul-nyeo.

While Yoo Yeon-seok (playing Baek Sa-eon) made his acting debut in 2003, he took a break and restarted his acting career in 2008. Some of his notable works are Re-encounter, A Werewolf Boy, Perfect Proposal, Dr. Romantic, Reply 1994, and more. However, he gained global momentum with his role as Ahn Jeong-won in Hospital Playlist alongside actors Jo Jung-seok, Jung Kyung-ho, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Dae-myung.
The actor has consequently hosted five editions of the Blue Dragon Film Awards alongside actress Kim Hye-soo from 2018 to 2023.
Chae Soo-bin debuted straight onto the big screen with My Dictator in 2014. Over the years, she has worked in a multitude of films and series. Her performance in Love in the Moonlight alongside Park Bo-gum, Kim Yoo-jung, and Jung Jin-young attracted great attention.
However, she took her first prime-time leading role in 2017 with The Rebel. Afterward, she starred in dramas such as Strongest Deliveryman, I'm Not a Robot, and Rookie Cops, where she played the protagonist, Kang Daniel.
When The Phone Rings airs on MBC and Netflix every Friday and Saturday, in selected regions. After the scheduled release of seven of its episodes, the series will go on a short hiatus. Hence, episode 8 of the series will air on December 21 instead of December 14.
