On November 24, Netflix officially announced that its series Daily Dose of Sunshine has been nominated for the 52nd International Emmy Awards. While several fans celebrated the recognition, the nomination of the series in the 'Best Comedy Series' category has ignited a heated debate online. Fans are questioning the categorization of the Netflix drama, which primarily deals with mental health and healing, rather than traditional comedic elements.

The series, starring Park Bo-young and Yeon Woo-jin, follows the story of a nurse navigating her patients' struggles with mental illness. While the show received acclaim for its performances and storytelling, its nomination in the comedy category has puzzled many. One netizen tweeted:

"I was bawling my eyes out every episode where was the comedy???"
""I can’t believe the Emmys would a melodrama about mental health in a comedy category. What???? This is ridiculous. It deserves to be nominated but it definitely was no laughing matter.🥴" posted a fan.
"being nominated for the best comedy series is the only hilarious thing about ddos" said another fan.
""Best comedy" we dont have the same humor i guess but congrats i guess!" commented a netizen.
"Best Comedy?! I didn't even watch it and know that category is wrong." wrote an X user.

Netizens and fans are questioning how a series centered on serious themes like mental health could be classified as a comedy.

"Comedy? I mean it is so amazing but as far from comedy as I can imagine. Very serious series and subjects" added another netizen.
"Congratulations…but Comedy? What’s so funny about a mental health drama?😩" pointed out an individual on X.

However, many fans are thrilled that the series has received recognition at such a prestigious global award, regardless of the category.

"one of the best depictions of different mental health issues, and how it affects patients and the people who care for them" wrote one fan.
"It was a drama that made me realize the difficulty of mental care, which is a social problem. The good performance of the actors became even more serious I personally watched it with interest in Jang Dongyoon✨" said this fan.
