Who Is She episodes 1 & 2 recap: Oh Mal-soon's transformation, family conflicts, and a missing idol mystery

The episode 1 of Who Is She, opens with Oh Mal-soon running down a staircase and into a bathroom. She removes her cap and rolls up her sweatshirt to examine her face and hands. She shrieks in shock.

The next scene of 'Who Is She', cuts to her son-in-law, Choi Min-seok, who runs an academy. He yells at a woman setting up her academy near his. He accuses her of being ungrateful, and claims he gave her a job.

The woman argues that students prefer her and it's beyond her control. Min-seok refuses to listen and causes a scene until Mal-soon arrives. She calms him down and takes him away, pointing out that his daughter, Choi Ha-na, is present.

On their way home, Min-seok asks Mal-soon not to tell his wife, Ban Ji-sook. However, Ji-sook overhears everything. Seeing her, Ha-na, Mal-soon, and Min-seok scatter in different directions mentioning different excuses.

The scene shifts to a party hosted by UNIS Entertainment. Former boy group leader and current executive producer of UNIS, Daniel Han or Han Joon-hyuk, and the upcoming girl group under his creative production, becomes the center highlight of the party.

A foreign entertainment CEO seeks to partner with UNIS because of Daniel and the group. Daniel seals the deal but shares with a colleague that he plans to retire after the debut. However, the next morning, a member who is the center of this upcoming girl group, goes missing, throwing Daniel's plan of retirement and the company into chaos.

Meanwhile, in Who Is She, Mal-soon visits her old soup restaurant. She tastes the new chefs’ dishes and decides to lease it out. Later, she takes her granddaughter to karaoke. After Ha-na sings, Mal-soon tries to sing but struggles to hit high notes. She reminisces about her younger days when she sang flawlessly.

That evening, Ji-sook runs into Mal-soon and asks about her father, who left 50 years ago. Mal-soon avoids the topic, but Ji-sook presses her, saying it must have been easy for her. Ji-sook then talks to Min-seok about his failures and reminds him of her sacrifices to marry him against her mother’s wishes.

At breakfast, Mal-soon announces she will audition for a musical show Legendary Singers. Ji-sook opposes the idea, calling it childish. Mal-soon retorts that her life is full of regrets, and she doesn’t mind one more.

Later in Who Is She's episode 1, Mal-soon attends a poetry class with her old friend Park Gap-yong. After class, they reminisce about the past, including Mal-soon’s struggles with her sick father and her mother’s abandonment. Gap-yong reminds her of his unwavering support for decades.

Meanwhile, in Who Is She, UNIS finalizes its deal with the foreign company. However, their upcoming girl group's center member remains missing and the company tries everything to look for her.

Mal-soon auditions for Legendary Singers in the UNIS building, accompanied by Gap-yong. She says she wants to meet Kim Ae-sim, a legendary singer and UNIS CEO. When asked if she’s a fan, Mal-soon denies it, surprising the crew.

She sings "The Man in the Yellow Shirt," Kim Ae-sim’s debut song. Ae-sim is shocked to see Mal-soon but laughs upon hearing her sing well, which causes Mal-soon to break down and leave. As she leaves, Ae-sim tells her that wanting to be a singer isn’t enough. Mal-soon hurriedly goes backstage and breaks down crying.

At home, after Ji-sook returns drunk, Ha-na announces her decision to skip college and audition as a singer-trainee for UNIS. Ji-sook yells at her, prompting Mal-soon to intervene.

The argument escalates as Ji-sook accuses Mal-soon of being cold and failing as a mother. Mal-soon asks if Ji-sook hates her so much and suggests leaving. Ji-sook agrees, saying things would’ve been better if they hadn’t lived together.

Heartbroken, Mal-soon walks out of the home when it starts to rain. A taxi driver in a yellow shirt offers her a ride, she takes it a bit but doesn’t know where to go. Instead, she falls asleep to the music playing in the car.

When she wakes, she’s in a photo studio filled with portrait photographs. Thinking that, she’s leaving soon, she thinks about preparing a portrait for her funeral. The photographer a man who looks like the taxi driver, however refusing to accept to be him, sets up to take her photo. He tells her, before clicking the photo “Youth never comes twice”.

As the clicking sound of the camera goes off, Mal-soon suddenly finds herself on a beach. A massive wave crashes toward her. She awakens in the studio, alone. Looking around her eyes fall in a mirror and she screams upon seeing herself in a younger body. This is where episode 1 of Who Is She ends.

The second episode of Who Is She begins with young Mal-soon panicking while looking at her reflection. She pinches and slaps herself, realizing she’s alive. She then recognizes her to look like her younger self. She recalls the taxi driver and a lipstick labeled “Spring” falls on her from above.

Mal-soon leaves the studio and unknowingly passes through an invisible wall. Everything outside seems normal to her. Finding some school kids she asks them if she looks old, and they tease her for her outdated hairstyle however saying that she looks like a young woman.

Ji-sook on the other hand, reflects on the previous night and calls it a nightmare. She discusses it with her husband and firmly states her determination to send their daughter to college.

Meanwhile in Who Is She's episode 2, Mal-soon visits her neighborhood, but no one recognizes her. Amid the confusion, she realizes she feels physically stronger, free from knee pain, and noticeably younger. She begins to think this might be a second chance to redo her life.

Feeling hungry, she stops by the soup shop she visited earlier and enjoys a meal. As she leaves, she sees her daughter approaching. However, her daughter doesn’t recognize her and gets into a taxi, leaving Mal-soon feeling even more frustrated.

Determined to return to her original self, Mal-soon heads back to the photo studio. To her surprise, it no longer exists. While she stands confused, looking for the shop, the same taxi driver passes by again, splashing mud on her.

Ji-sook is out with her colleague when they see a woman resembling Mal-soon. The woman is dressed in a different clothing and hairstyle than Mal-soon. Despite the changes, Ji-sook recognizes her as her mother.

Meanwhile, young Mal-soon visits a dress shop. She buys dresses, and the owner takes her photos, calling her pretty, in exchange for discounts.

Elsewhere in Who Is She's this episode, Daniel searches for Emily, his missing group member. He goes to a restaurant where she once took him for katsu. Emily is revealed to look exactly like young Mal-soon. Daniel waits, hoping Emily will appear. Nearby, the taxi driver eats with a woman resembling the old Mal-soon, the same one Ji-sook had seen earlier.

Young Mal-soon walks past a place called Royal Saloon. She recalls working there as a waitress and befriending a group of college students. One of them introduced her to the group. She remembers a boy who sang at the pub, taught her the guitar, and performed with her.

Curious, Mal-soon enters the Royal Saloon, now a nightclub. She struggles to order using a computerized screen, irritating the people behind her. Frustrated, she yells at them, saying they should help instead of complaining.

A girl steps forward to assist her—it’s her granddaughter, Ha-na. Mal-soon is shocked but Ha-na doesn’t recognize her and disappears into the crowd after helping. Mal-soon follows Ha-na and watches her perform on stage impressing the audience.

After the show, Mal-soon introduces herself as the daughter of Mal-soon’s friend and says she has nowhere to go and bond over coffee.

Meanwhile, in Who Is She, the dress shop owner posts Mal-soon’s photos on social media. Mistaking her for Emily, Daniel and his team track her down.

Mal-soon and Ha-na go to a karaoke bar to bond. Mal-soon sings The Man in the Yellow Shirt, hitting the high notes perfectly. Daniel finds her there and watches her sing.

Suddenly, Mal-soon gets her period and rushes to a convenience store to buy sanitary napkins. At the counter, she runs into Daniel. Thinking she is Emily, he insists she come with him. Mal-soon calls him crazy and denies being Emily.

Daniel shows her Emily’s audition video, where she sings the same song Mal-soon just sang. Surprised, Mal-soon listens to it and Daniel assumes she has memory loss. He gives her his card and asks her to return when her memory comes back. Ha-na films the entire interaction and later recognizes Daniel. Mal-soon notices the UNIS logo on Daniel’s card. She recalls Ha-na mentioning her audition at the company.

Elsewhere in Who Is She, Ji-sook gets promoted to director at work. She takes her husband on a walk to share the news. The couple walks home, talking about feeling happy. Mal-soon watches and listens to them from a distance.

The next day, Mal-soon agrees to train with Daniel but questions what happens if Emily returns. Daniel dismisses her concerns insisting that she is Emily, annoying her.

Meanwhile, the older-look alike Mal-soon arrives at UNIS, claiming to have information about Emily. Ha-na, entering the building for her audition, sees the woman and is confused.

In the final scene of this episode of Who Is She, young Mal-soon exits a bathroom and comes face-to-face with a woman resembling old Mal-soon. They stare at each other both in shock.
