On December 25 and 26, KBS2 aired episodes 3 and 4 of its new drama Who Is She (Korean: 수상한 그녀). The series, which stars Kim Hae-sook, Jung Ji-so, Jung Jin-young, and Chae Won-bin, is a remake of the 2014 hit film Miss Granny, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk.

Who Is She follows the story of Oh Mal-soon, a 70-year-old grandmother who mysteriously regains her youthful appearance, returning to her twenties. As she embarks on a journey to relive the dreams she had to abandon, she faces the challenges of balancing her past with her newfound opportunities.

In Who Is She, Kim Hae-sook plays the older Oh Mal-soon, a resilient grandmother who raised her daughter alone after the death of her husband. Jung Ji-so portrays the younger Mal-soon, also known as Emily, who joins Eunice Entertainment as a trainee to pursue the singing career she had once given up.

Jung Jin-young takes on the role of Daniel Han (Han Joon-hyuk) in Who Is She, an executive producer at UNIS who becomes integral to Mal-soon’s new journey.

Who Is She episodes 3 & 4 recap: Mal-soon’s journey to debut collides with family secrets and unresolved tensions

Who Is She episode 3

Episode 3 of Who Is She begins with young Mal-soon encountering a woman who resembles her older self. Both are stunned and curious, but before they can talk, others whisk them away.

Young Mal-soon is dragged away by members of UNIS' upcoming girl group, mistaking her for Emily. They threaten her with a secret from Emily’s past and demand she leave the company. Young Mal-soon realizes Emily may have faced similar threats, possibly leading to her disappearance.

Meanwhile, Mal-soon’s granddaughter, Ha-na, reaches UNIS for her audition and pulls the older woman resembling Mal-soon aside. This woman, dressed in chic attire with a different hairstyle, surprises Ha-na. She compliments her outfit and invites her to return home, where everyone awaits her.

However, Ha-na is soon called for her audition, which she aces, impressing three out of five judges. Daniel, observing her performance, recalls Mal-soon’s condition and thinks Ha-na must join the trainee program to support her. However, Ha-na earns her spot on her own merit, much to Mal-soon’s delight.

At work, Ji-sook uses Mal-soon’s tactics to win over her new teammate successfully. However, her husband, Min-seok, struggles to find a job. Later, Ji-sook receives a call from her aunt about her estranged, gravely ill father. Despite his wishes to keep Ji-sook away, the aunt reveals the truth, blaming Mal-soon for their prolonged estrangement.

Back at UNIS, the group resents young Mal-soon’s presence, but Daniel insists on her importance to their debut. The choreographer mocks her struggles with choreography, but Daniel intervenes, arranging one-on-one training for her.

That evening, Daniel takes Mal-soon to a roadside restaurant, where her ability to drink soju surprises him. He questions her about her changed behavior and asks her about having a crush on him, but in English — which Mal-soon doesn’t understand. She candidly admits it, further surprising Daniel. Then he hands her the agency contract, emphasizing she can’t disappear without informing him.

The next day, the dietician criticizes Mal-soon’s weight and enforces a strict salad diet, much to her dismay. Later, Lim Ri-na, a colleague of Daniel, gives Mal-soon a makeover after seeing her teammates laughing at her. Her transformation stuns everyone, including her bandmates and Daniel. Mal-soon also announces her new identity as Oh Duri.

Later in episode 3 of Who Is She, Mal-soon goes to the company's auditorium and sings, reminiscing about her time singing at Royal Saloon. Daniel joins her with his guitar, and they sing together. Ae-sim sees this from the doorstep, which makes her suspicious and disturbed. Daniel later gives Mal-soon the group’s new songs to learn.

Ha-na, now officially a trainee, moves into the dorms. She informs her parents about her decision to quit school, upsetting Ji-sook, who refrains from interfering due to Min-seok. Mal-soon accompanies Ha-na to the dorm. The group, getting more hostile due to this, plans to expose Emily’s past.

As Ha-na settles into the dorm, Mal-soon talks about Ha-na’s grandmother. Ha-na responds confidently, saying her grandmother can take care of herself and will return when ready. This response angers Mal-soon, who storms out and heads to a pub.

In the pub, a man tries to flirt with Mal-soon even after she says no, leading her to fend off the man by bending his arm. Daniel, coincidentally dining nearby, witnesses the incident. The next day, Mal-soon goes to his office and apologizes to Daniel, who tells her to focus on debuting before doing anything drastic.

As they leave his office, she comes face-to-face with Kim Ae-sim. Shocked, Mal-soon drops her phone as they exchange startled glances.

Who Is She episode 4

Episode 4 of Who Is She opens with Mal-soon recalling her days as a singer, with Ae-sim among her audience. At present, Ae-sim picks up Mal-soon’s dropped phone and returns it. After a greeting, Mal-soon reintroduces herself as Oh Duri.

Later, Mal-soon asks Daniel if her work at Ae-sim’s company inadvertently helps fulfill Ae-sim’s dreams. Daniel dismisses her worries, urging her to focus on her own aspirations. Mal-soon then asks Ha-na whether to prioritize revenge or dreams, and Ha-na chooses dreams, surprising her.

Mal-soon recalls her past, thinking back to attending the funeral of her singing partner from Royal Saloon. As she was about to leave the funeral, her partner's brother handed her a notebook of songs the late musician wrote for her, including The Man in the Yellow Shirt. He revealed that his brother wished for her to debut with them.

Running in Ae-sim, Mal-soon shares the notebook with her. After Mal-soon tells her she cannot read musical notes, Ae-sim offers to record the songs for her. However, a scene cut to the present reveals Ae-sim performing The Man in the Yellow Shirt, implying that she stole the song for herself.

At present, Mal-soon resolves to chase her dream instead of revenge. Ha-na advises her to drop her dialect and old-fashioned speech. Mal-soon excels in singing and improves in dancing. Her bandmates attempt to blackmail her with Emily’s medication, but Mal-soon lashes out, accusing them of neglecting their teammate.

Meanwhile, in Who Is She, episode 4, Daniel receives a cryptic message. Mal-soon and Ha-na’s conversation reveals Daniel’s former group, IGNIS, disbanded due to a stalker scandal. The stalker, now divorced and back in Korea, unsettles Daniel with her messages. Mal-soon later comforts him by giving him a box of gum, urging him to use it when stressed.

Meanwhile, Ji-sook decides to move out of her mother’s house. Mal-soon visits her old neighborhood and learns about Ji-sook’s plans, which displeases her. Park Gap-yong, Mal-soon's old friend, calls Mal-soon, and she answers, meeting him in person later. Though initially confused about her, he listens as she recounts the day they first met and ultimately reveals her true identity, shocking him.

Mal-soon then shares her plan to return home to understand her daughter and son-in-law’s true intentions. She tasks Gap-yong with tracking down the taxi driver and deciphering the meaning of the engraved stamp box labeled "Spring," believing it holds the key to restoring her original self. Gap-yong gives her a new phone to maintain her disguise.

Later in Who Is She, Gap-yong visits Mal-soon’s daughter and informs her that the granddaughter of Mal-soon’s friend will be staying with them. Though skeptical, her daughter and son-in-law agree but ask questions about Mal-soon’s whereabouts, making Gap-yong uncomfortable.

The next day, Ha-na encounters the older Mal-soon look-alike and urges her to return home, eventually putting her in a taxi headed there. Meanwhile, Mal-soon, disguised as Oh Duri—her friend's granddaughter—arrives at her own home with Gap-yong. She introduces herself to her daughter and son-in-law.

However, before they can delve further, the older Mal-soon look-alike enters the house, prompting Ji-sook to call out to her as "Mother." This is where episode 4 of Who Is She concludes.

Episodes 5 and 7 of Who Is She will be broadcast on KBS2 on January 1 and 2, 2025, at 9:.50 pm KST.
