Who Is She episodes 5 & 6 recaps: Old Mal-soon's double appears, Daniel's harsh decision, and a viral performance changes everything

In episode 5 of Who Is She, young Mal-soon stands with her family in the courtyard. Suddenly, an older woman who looks exactly like her walks in. The older lookalike calls Mal-soon "Sister," shocking everyone. Ji-sook, Mal-soon's daughter, assuming the lookalike is her mother, starts to speak, but Mal-soon stops her. She drags the doppelgänger outside to talk privately.

Outside, Mal-soon confronts her, demanding to know who she is. The woman responds by asking who she could be since they look identical. Mal-soon gets startled and denies the possibility that the lookalike is "Her".

As Mal-soon demands answers, the doppelgänger receives a call from a taxi driver observing them. The driver reminds her not to disclose anything and to leave. Hearing this, she rushes to the taxi. The driver warns her again that she chose to "return" and must not reveal the truth to anyone.

On the other hand, a confused Mal-soon returns to her family. It is revealed that she has moved back home from her dorm for 10 days. She remembers her rehearsal and hurries to the UNIS's building. However, she is late and gets scolded by Daniel and his team.

After rehearsal, UNIS's CEO, Ae-sim, takes the group, Daniel, and the management team out for dinner. Mal-soon gets drunk and starts mocking Ae-sim. She asks Ae-sim how it feels to live her glamorous life but quickly changes her tone, pretending to admire her fame.

Ae-sim advises Mal-soon to work hard to experience it herself. Mal-soon replies that she will. Daniel, annoyed, drags Mal-soon outside and reprimands her. Mal-soon brushes him off, claiming she needs to practice and runs off there, leaving him fuming.

Later in Who Is She, Mal-soon finds an girlgroup from UNIS's photo with Ae-sim in the rehearsal room. Ae-sim has written on the photo that the girls remind her of herself in her 20s. This triggers Mal-soon's memory of working at the pub and waiting for Ae-sim to return with the diary containing songs written for her.

But Ae-sim never returned and one day, Mal-soon saw Ae-sim perform The Man in Yellow Shirt on TV, realizing Ae-sim had stolen the song. Furious, Mal-soon writes "Everything starts now" on a sticky note and places it on Ae-sim's photo.

Meanwhile, Daniel returns home to find signs of her female stalker and also receives text message from her. He shares the incident with his colleague Lim Ri-na and expresses his desire to move. The next morning, Mal-soon sees Daniel looking tired and hands him a bottle of jujube juice.

Elsewhere, the older lookalike overhears neighbors gossiping about Mal-soon. One woman defends her, and the lookalike approaches her. Claiming herself as Mal-soon, she tells the lady that she remembers nothing of her past. The neighbor recounts Mal-soon's life story with her. While they are talking, they both see Mal-soon's son in-law, Choi Min-seok, getting into a car with his junior, who is a woman.

Meanwhile, Ha-na, Mal-soon's granddaughter, feels ignored by her teammates. Her mother, Ji-sook, takes her out for a meal but criticizes her life choices recalling her perfect grades, frustrating Ha-na.

Later in this episode of Who Is She, Daniel invites Mal-soon to the recording studio to test her vocals. He is impressed but refrains from openly praising her. Mal-soon playfully scares him by suggesting the studio might be haunted, laughing as he reacts.

Afterward in this episode of Who Is She, Mal-soon meets her old friend, Park Gap-yong. They eat, take a walk, and she asks him to gift her flowers. She rides his bike back home, but her team leader secretly photographs them and sends the pictures to Ae-sim.

Daniel, enraged by the photos, confronts Mal-soon. He accuses her of jeopardizing the team and its debut. Furious, he expels her from the team. This is where the episode 5 of Who Is She ends.

Episode 6 of Who Is She begins with Park Gap-yong recalling meeting Mal-soon for the first time and falling in love. However, when he returned from the war, he found her pregnant with another man's child.

The scene comes to present when he overhears Daniel kicking Mal-soon out of the team, accusing her of having a relationship with an older man and skipping practice. Mal-soon goes back to her home and practices alone there, hoping Daniel will call.

Ha-na learns about the situation and visits Mal-soon. They sit outside, talking, when they hear an elder's singing competition. Mal-soon and Ha-na join and sing a new rendition of The Man in Yellow Shirt, arranged by Ha-na. The performance gets huge appreciation from the audience.

At the UNIS building, Lim Ri-na advises Daniel to give Mal-soon a chance to explain herself. He realizes his mistake and watches the team practice. When Ha-na arrives late, Daniel asks her about Mal-soon and Park Gap-yong. Ha-na clarifies that Gap-yong is like a grandfather to them.

Realizing his error, Daniel rushes to Mal-soon's neighborhood to apologize and ask her to return. Mal-soon says that she needs time. Still insisting, Daniel follows her and the two roam around the neighborhood when he sees the guesthouse ran by Park Gap-yong.

He jumps at the opportunity and books a room there to move into quickly at Park Gap-yong's guesthouse, much to Mal-soon's annoyance. However, Gap-yong’s son dismisses Mal-soon's objections and confirms Daniel’s stay. Before leaving, Daniel sincerely apologizes again and asks her to return.

That night, Ji-sook drunkenly tells Mal-soon, not recognizing her as her mother, that she hates her mom. Meanwhile, Daniel sleeps soundly in his new room, feeling relieved.

The next morning, in this episode of Who Is She, Daniel insists on driving Mal-soon to rehearsal, forbidding her from riding Gap-yong’s motorcycle till debut. Mal-soon reluctantly agrees and follows him.

However, Daniel drops her off away from the UNIS building, explaining he cannot be seen with trainees. Annoyed, Mal-soon kicks at his car as he drives off.

During the evaluation at the UNIS building, Mal-soon starts strong but falters upon recalling Ae-sim’s past mockery of her performance of The Man in Yellow Shirt. Outside, Gap-yong encounters the older lookalike.

When asked by Gap-yong, she cryptically asks back if, after knowing Mal-soon for 50 years, he cannot tell who she is. Before he can probe further, the younger Mal-soon arrives, prompting the doppelgänger to leave.

Mal-soon is thrilled to see Gap-yong but quickly becomes anxious. She tells him he shouldn’t have visited so soon after the incident with Daniel. Embarrassed, Gap-yong leaves and berates himself for his actions as he drives home on his motorcycle.

Later in this episode of Who Is She, Mal-soon visits Gap-yong’s guesthouse but cannot find him. Worried, she tries calling him but gets no response.

During the evaluation discussion at UNIS, judges criticize Mal-soon for forgetting her dance moves but praise her singing. In the midst of the dilemma, one of the judges receives a text message containing a link to a video of Mal-soon and Ha-na's performance at the singing competition. The video has gone viral, amassing millions of views and garnering widespread praise in the comments.

The next morning, the older Mal-soon lookalike visits Mal-soon's house, posing as her. She confronts Mal-soon's son-in-law Choi Min-seok, criticizing him for not finding a job and spending time with his junior, leaving him flustered.

Meanwhile, in this episode of Who Is She, Mal-soon accompanies a neighbor to see singer Tae Jin-ah whom they are fan of. As he appears, the crowd grows unruly, pushing and shoving. Mal-soon gets caught in the commotion and stumbles.

Just as she is about to fall, a young man who has come on a motorcycle, catches her in his arms. Gently setting her back on her feet, he advises her to be more careful and compliments her dress.

Mal-soon takes a long look at his face and is in shock. Surprised she blurts out, "Are you Park Gap-yong?" to which the young man smiles in response. On this note, the episode 6 of Who Is She concludes.

KBS2 will air episodes 7 and 8 of Who Is She on January 8 and 9, 2025, at 9:50 PM KST.
