Who Is She episodes 7 & 8 recaps: Mal-soon's identity unravels, Gap-yong's return stirs chaos, and Daniel faces a stalker
Episode 7 of Who is She begins with a flashback of Park Gap-yong, now older, riding his bike from UNIS. He is on his way back from delivering dresses to Mal-soon. Suddenly, his vision blurs, and his bike goes out of control. A mysterious taxi driver follows him, shocked, as the bike weaves through traffic.
In the next scene of episode 7 of Who is She, Park Gap-yong finds himself in his younger body. He joins an idol program and, when asked about his reason, says he wants to confess to someone he likes but never told. Meanwhile, Mal-soon and her friend return from Tae Jin-ah’s fan meeting with autographs.
Outside, she finds Gap-yong leaning against his motorcycle. She demands proof that he is really Gap-yong. He recalls embarrassing moments from her past, convincing her. Mal-soon, worried about him, asks if he met the taxi driver. Gap-yong promises to explain later and rides off, leaving her wondering if he was always this good-looking.
At Mal-soon’s house, the older woman resembling her speaks to her daughter Ji-sook and son-in-law Choi Min-seok as Mal-soon. She declares she no longer wants to live only as a mother.
Ji-sook, noticing her mother’s different appearance and speech, asks if she is okay. The woman scoffs, saying she wants to live on her own terms, and suggests a give-and-take approach moving forward. Ji-sook and Min-seok panic, wondering if this means paying her rent.
The look-alike explores Mal-soon’s room but is confronted by Mal-soon, who demands to know why she’s there. The woman insists she needs Mal-soon’s help, hinting they should work together. Mal-soon refuses.
It is revealed the look-alike is Kkeut-soon, Mal-soon’s sister. Choi Min-seok interrupts, mistaking Kkeut-soon for Mal-soon, and berates the real Mal-soon for being rude. Shocked, Mal-soon leaves, refusing Kkeut-soon’s help.
At UNIS, Ae-sim, the CEO, sees a viral video of Mal-soon and Ha-na singing during auditions. This triggers memories of her past. Years ago, Mal-soon accused her of stealing the song, The Man in the Yellow Shirt.
Mal-soon claimed to be the inspiration for its lyrics and said Ae-sim had ruined her life. Ae-sim dismissed her, stating she didn’t know how to sing properly. Before leaving, Mal-soon criticized Ae-sim’s style, urging her to enjoy the rhythm to connect with audiences.
Now, Ae-sim calls someone to investigate Emily, who is actually Mal-soon. The next day, she meets Lim Ri-na, one of the management of UNIS, and demands Mal-soon be removed from the idol group. Ri-na defends Mal-soon’s talent, but Ae-sim dismisses her argument, saying there are other reasons to eliminate someone.
Meanwhile, in this episode of Who Is She, Daniel meets Mal-soon and assures her Ha-na and she are safe. He reminds her of his promise from her audition in America, saying he will always support her. Flustered, Mal-soon insists she won’t date a colleague. Daniel laughs, clarifying he meant he would handle her mistakes with marketing not romance.
Elsewhere in this episode of Who Is She, Kkeut-soon catches Min-seok sneaking out. She takes him out for a meal and blackmails him for information about Ji-sook and Mal-soon.
Min-seok reveals Ji-sook met a mysterious older woman recently and has been angry ever since. On their way back, they overhear neighbors gossiping about Mal-soon. Kkeut-soon confronts them as Mal-soon, and defends her sister.
At UNIS, Daniel changes the debut group’s title song to a retro track inspired by Mal-soon. This gives Mal-soon and Ha-na another chance. However, other trainees resent Mal-soon, accusing her of acting like a leader. On the other hand, Ri-na suggests that Mal-soon move into the dorms to avoid rumors about Daniel living nearby.
Back home, Kkeut-soon finds family photos, but none of Mal-soon’s husband. She notices a picture of their mother with them as children. She wonders about the mysterious older woman Ji-sook mentioned.
Later in this episode of Who Is She, Mal-soon sees Gap-yong’s son near the guesthouse. She consoles him as he misses his father. Daniel arrives, followed by Gap-yong in his younger form. Gap-yong, who rents a room at the guesthouse, greets Mal-soon, surprising Daniel. He asks how they know each other. Mal-soon brushes it off, leaving Daniel suspicious.
The next day, Daniel warns Mal-soon against dating before their debut. Offended, she tries to bond with other trainees by sharing dating tips. Daniel overhears and, annoyed, ends the break. Meanwhile, Ha-na also works on winning over her group members.
At night, Gap-yong meets Mal-soon to give her new dresses. She scolds him for risking their reputation. Daniel walks in, and a heated argument ensues. Gap-yong accuses Daniel of exploiting Mal-soon, while Daniel calls him a stalker. The episode of Who Is She ends on this tense note.
Episode 8 of Who Is She picks up with Mal-soon intervening. She reveals Gap-yong is her childhood friend and stops the fight. Gap-yong’s son watches the drama unfold with amusement.
At home, Min-seok snoops on Ji-sook’s phone and discovers the hospital where her father is admitted. Kkeut-soon again offers Mal-soon help, but Mal-soon refuses. Both sisters recall their childhood, revealing their strained relationship. Kkeut-soon chose their stepfather, while Mal-soon resented him.
Gap-yong, happy with his regained youth, continues feuding with Daniel. Meanwhile, Daniel is anxious about his stalker. He focuses on debuting the group Element, which includes Mal-soon.
The next morning, Kkeut-soon impersonates Mal-soon at breakfast but raises suspicion by using her left hand. Ji-sook announces her plan to move out, claiming shared living doesn’t make them family. This saddens Mal-soon.
Later in this episode of Who Is She, Kkeut-soon receives a notice about her personal pension that requires Mal-soon to visit the office in person. Reluctantly, Mal-soon agrees to let Kkeut-soon help, in return offering her tips on how to impersonate her better to avoid raising suspicions.
Afterward, Daniel drives Mal-soon to UNIS for practice. Sensing her sadness, which is caused by Ji-sook's harsh words, Daniel tries to cheer her up by playing one of his old songs. When Mal-soon still seems down, he gently places his hand over her eyes, encouraging her to rest. Surprised by the gesture, Mal-soon feels flustered.
At band practice, Mal-soon finds herself distracted, recalling the car ride with Daniel. Suddenly, the band leader collapses from overwork. Mal-soon quickly calls for help and later visits the hospital with porridge for her recovery. Grateful, the leader sends a message through Ha-na, thanking Mal-soon for her care.
Later, Daniel and Mal-soon go out for tea, where he seeks her advice on facing fears. She tells him to confront nightmares head-on rather than avoiding them. Inspired, Daniel affectionately calls her "Hyung" for good advice, and pats her on the head. Mal-soon is left frozen, her heart racing as she struggles to understand her feelings.
The rivalry between Daniel and Gap-yong continues, with Gap-yong pulling pranks, like switching off the hot water during Daniel's bath. On the other hand, Mal-soon and the band leader reconcile. The leader even shares details about Daniel’s new song, which is later approved by the group and management.
Elsewhere in this episode of Who Is She, Min-seok secretly follows Ji-sook to the hospital, discovering her father is gravely ill. He also overhears Ji-sook's aunt urging her to tell Mal-soon about the situation. Meanwhile, Gap-yong writes to his son, encouraging him to focus on running the guesthouse in his absence.
At UNIS, a fan gifts Ha-na two teddy bears— one for herself and one for Mal-soon. However, they later discover hidden cameras inside the bears. Alarmed, Daniel rushes Mal-soon to the police to file a report. When Mal-soon sees his panic, she vows that she’ll confront any stalker to protect him. Daniel bursts into laughter, amused by her sudden determination.
Elsewhere in this episode of Who Is She, Ae-sim’s manager uncovers shocking truths about Mal-soon’s identity. There’s no record of an "Oh Duri," the name Mal-soon used to enroll in UNIS.
Moreover, Ae-sim learns that Daniel lives near Mal-soon’s house, which also happens to be Ae-sim’s old nemesis Mal-soon’s residence. Furious, Ae-sim confronts Mal-soon at the guesthouse, accusing her of fabricating her identity to sabotage her, and she tells her to leave UNIS.
Daniel, however, defends Mal-soon, insisting that the "Emily" he knows isn’t capable of such deceit. He delivers an ultimatum to Ae-sim, vowing to leave if Mal-soon is forced out. This leaves Ae-sim visibly shaken, unsure how to proceed. Episode 8 of Who Is She concludes here.
Episodes 9 and 10 of Who Is She are set to air on KBS2 on January 15 and 16, 2025, at 9:50 pm KST.
