On October 25, 2024, BTS member Jin released his first solo pre-release single, I'll Be There, marking the beginning of his highly anticipated solo debut journey. This track is part of his upcoming album, Happy, set for release on November 15, 2024. The song, accompanied by a music video, dropped on HYBE LABELS’ official YouTube channel.
American singer-songwriter MAX, who co-wrote the song, left a comment under the video, stating,
“Co-writing this song was one of the most fun and special experiences I’ve ever had. Congratulations Jin on such a joyous and beautiful comeback! So honored and grateful to help you bring your vision to life. You're a rockstar.”
Jin's I’ll Be There: A dynamic sugar-pop anthem, marking a heartfelt return through collaboration with MAX
I'll Be There, a track blending upbeat rock, house, bubblegum pop, and more, is described by the artist as falling under the Sugar-Pop genre. The genre choice marks a departure from his previous solo works like The Astronaut and Epiphany. It seemingly resonated with fans, as they responded enthusiastically, embracing this side of the five-time Grammy-nominated pop star.
The track’s lyrics, primarily in Korean, expressed Jin's dedication to fans in lines such as,
“I swear that I will always sing for you, sing for you/ I’ll be there for you.”
The bridge of the track further resonates, as the singer promises (in Korean) to always be a source of support for fans when they feel sad or alone.
"When you feel down, when you feel all alone, when you need someone to lean on, I'll be there for you."
While The Astronaut served as a love letter to his fans, whom he described as his “universe,” I’ll Be There strengthens that bond, doubling down on his devotion. In an exclusive comment to Vogue, published on October 25, 2024, Jin talked about his latest single:
“I’m excited to be back and I hope my fans love this song as much as I do.”
Written by Jin, Cho Yun Kyoung, EVAN, GHSTLOOP, Martin Masarov, Pdogg, and MAX, and produced by Pdogg, EVAN, and GHSTLOOP, the song captures a blend of various styles.
The music video features Jin busking with his band in a parking lot, portraying the BTS star as an emerging artist. He is dressed in a rockstar ensemble that includes an oversized t-shirt, flannel shirt, and denim jacket, complemented by baggy jeans. The visuals reflect a rockstar vibe, which is further enhanced by the song's energetic genre.
The track's co-writer MAX, or Maxwell George Schneider, is an American singer and actor. He gained popularity with his 2016 single Lights Down Low, featuring gnash. MAX has collaborated with BTS on multiple occasions, deepening his ties with the group.
His song Blueberry Eyes featured BTS’ SUGA. Later, in 2020, he appeared on SUGA’s mixtape D-2, on the track Burn It. Further, in 2022, MAX teamed up with BTS again, as a co-writer for their song Yet To Come.
On October 14, BTS' eldest member announced his eagerly awaited solo debut album, Happy, which is set to release on November 15, 2024, at 2 PM KST. The album will include six tracks, with Jin taking an active role in writing, composing, and creating four of them. Additionally, he has collaborated with Red Velvet's Wendy on a song titled Heart on the Window.
To celebrate this solo debut, the idol will hold a Special Stage event at Jangchung Arena on November 16 and 17, 2024. Attendees will have the chance to preview the album’s tracks and participate in a behind-the-scenes talk session, gaining insight into the creative process behind the album.
