On December 24, 2024, MBC released nearly 10 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from episodes 7 and 8 of the Netflix series When the Phone Rings. The clips captured the playful chemistry between Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin, leaving fans amused and awaiting more.

In the clips, the two lead actors were seen practicing their scenes together. The behind-the-scenes footage of the hospital moments from episode 7 showed lighthearted exchanges between Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, and the crew.

Practicing a scene from episode 7 of When the Phone Rings, where Baek Sa-eon carries Hee-joo from her wheelchair to her bed, Yoo Yeon-seok, portraying Sa-eon, initially turned in the wrong direction while carrying Chae Soo-bin. This caused the director and crew to burst into laughter.

Another memorable scene involved Baek Sa-eon asking Hee-joo to "get washed up." In the series, the scene cuts to Hee-joo reacting with a surprised "What?" However, the behind-the-scenes clip revealed Yoo Yeon-seok struggling to remove his tie while delivering the line.

After two failed attempts and bouts of laughter from the crew and the actor himself, he successfully removed the tie on the third try but became shy, eliciting giggles from everyone on set.

In When the Phone Rings's episode 8’s behind-the-scenes footage, Yoo Yeon-seok removed a grain of rice from Chae Soo-bin’s face during a dinner scene. In the series, the scene ends after Baek Sa-eon removes the rice.

However, the making clip showed Yoo Yeon-seok eating the rice after delivering his line. The clip then took an amusing turn when Chae Soo-bin’s stomach growled, making her laugh and fan herself in embarrassment.

The behind-the-scenes footage of When the Phone Rings episodes 7 and 8 sparked a wave of hilarious fan reactions online. Viewers couldn’t get enough of Yoo Yeon-seok’s playful moments with Chae Soo-bin.

One fan on X commented,

"YYS is ready to make the series 19+ but forget he's in the 13+ series. But even YYS couldn't hold his embarrassment after the necktie scene. CSB fanned herself because the rice scene or because her stomach growling?"

One other fan of the drama added:

"I don't think these scenes were too intense to be not included in the broadcast because of its 13+ age rating. Moreover if they can show those scenes where he lifts up her skirt and touches her thigh then why consider these gestures by YYS 19+?"

Fans took to social media, praising the behind-the-scenes video while also expressing frustration over these moments being left out of the show.

"First the tie loosening scene, now he ate the rice taking from Hee-joo’s lips? Why was this not included?? I am going aaagghhhaaaaa. WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED, YOU GUYS! MBC needs to apologize," said a viewer.
"Why they didn’t include thisss goshh that’s so hot," commented one X user.
"WE'RE SO ROBBED EVERYONE, WE COULD'VE SEEN THIS IN THE DRAMA," read another comment.
"When it comes to wtpr somehow the bts is much much hotter than the drama itself," claimed this viewer.

Fans were particularly vocal about the 'rice scene' footage, lamenting that the moment was not included in the final cut, as it could have made the scene in When the Phone Rings episode 8 better.

"Oh God Is it allowed to have this high level of intimacy?? man wiping rice from her lips and then he eats it??... yeonseok really has different game #WhenThePhoneRings," posted this viewer.
"The scene where Saeon eats rice stuck to Heejoo wasn't included in the drama, but in BTS it was there, even though during that scene I was hoping Saeon would eat it," shared a netizen.
"That was so bloody hot… I wanted him to eat that piece of grain when I watched the scene, so he did," mentioned one individual on X.

Behind-the-scenes footage highlights the camaraderie between Yoo Yeon-seok and Heo Nam-joon in When the Phone Rings

The behind-the-scenes footage of When the Phone Rings released on December 24 also featured playful moments between the drama's second leads, Heo Nam-joon and Jang Gyu-ri. Their shared scenes were filled with laughter from the crew, as they made a few mistakes while delivering their lines. However, the footage that stood out showed the camaraderie between Yoo Yeon-seok and Heo Nam-joon.

In one clip shared by MBC, the two male actors were practicing a scene following the intense car chase in episode 8. The behind-the-scenes moment showed them sharing a hug and laughing together, offering a stark contrast to the tension of the scene they were filming. Their lighthearted exchange highlighted their bond off-screen, adding an extra layer to their captivating performances.

For the unversed, When the Phone Rings is a South Korean drama about a show-window couple, Baek Sa-Eon (Yoo Yeon-seok) and Hong Hee-Joo (Chae Soo-bin), who have coldly lived together for three years after an arranged marriage. Their lives are turned upside down when Hee-Joo is kidnapped, forcing them to confront their strained relationship and uncover the truth behind the abduction.

The series, premiering on November 22, 2024, airs new episodes on MBC every Friday and Saturday and is available on Netflix in select regions.

Episodes 9 and 10 of When the Phone Rings are scheduled to air on MBC on December 27 and 28 at 9:50 KST, followed by Netflix an hour later.
