22 Jump Street, the 2014 sequel to the hit film 21 Jump Street, continues the comedic adventures of two undercover cops, Morton Schmidt, and Greg Jenko, as they navigate the challenges of their latest assignment, going undercover at a college to track down the supplier of a dangerous new drug.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film expertly blends action, humor, and satire, making it a standout in the buddy cop genre. With its sharp writing and memorable performances, 22 Jump Street not only lived up to the success of its predecessor but also introduced audiences to a host of new characters, played by a talented ensemble cast.
The chemistry between the lead actors, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, is the heart of the film, but the supporting cast plays a crucial role in bringing the hilarious and action-packed story to life. From returning characters to fresh faces, each actor adds their unique flair to the movie.
Exploring the cast list of 22 Jump Street
Jonah Hill as Morton Schmidt
Morton Schmidt is one half of the dynamic undercover duo at the center of 22 Jump Street. Schmidt is a mean awkward, nerdy police officer who gets into rather strange situations, and an example of such potential dread for Schmidt is having to mingle with students at a college.
Seasoned apart from all this is the character growth of Schmidt such that he sacrifices himself for the cause. Schmidt was also one of the writers for the film. Jonah Hill’s comedic talent has been evident in numerous films, including Superbad and The Wolf of Wall Street, the latter earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Channing Tatum as Greg Jenko
Greg Jenko, who is the second member of the undercover duo, is a great deal more active and good-looking than Schmidt who seems to use only his brains. Mingling with students and fitting into the college environment, comes rather naturally to Jenko in 22 Jump Street, especially after he joins a college football squad, which causes a few inter-partner tensions with Schmidt.
Channing Tatum’s performance of Jenko reveals Tatum’s impeccable comic timing. The actor had a successful career debut with Step Up and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra but now can be seen donning roles in various genres from testosterone-filled action movies to teary dramas and comedies.
Ice Cube as Captain Dickson
Captain Dickson is a short-tempered police captain who instructs Schmidt and Jenko to do the undercover operations. The Captain’s attitude and sometimes unflattering remarks usually guarantee some of the funniest moments in the motion picture, especially when he realizes that Schmidt is dating his daughter.
Captain Dickson is perfectly played by Ice Cube, who is known for his intensity and comic acting. Ice Cube started as a member of the hip-hop group N.W.A, but he came to the attention of the American audience with movies like Boyz n the Hood and soon became a successful producer and screenwriter.
Peter Stormare as The Ghost
The Ghost is the primary antagonist in 22 Jump Street. He is a drug dealer with a dangerous past who poses a significant threat to Schmidt and Jenko. His menacing presence and cold demeanor make him a formidable opponent. Peter Stormare, known for playing intense and often villainous characters, brings a chilling edge to The Ghost.
Stormare’s extensive filmography includes roles in Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and Armageddon. His versatility as an actor allows him to seamlessly switch between genres, making him a memorable villain in 22 Jump Street.
Wyatt Russell as Zook Haythe
Zook Haythe is a college student and star quarterback who quickly befriends Jenko, causing a rift between him and Schmidt. Zook’s laid-back attitude and charm make him an easy character to like, even as his friendship with Jenko complicates their mission.
Wyatt Russell, who portrays Zook, is the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. He has carved out his niche in Hollywood with roles in films like Everybody Wants Some!! and Overlord. Russell’s natural charisma and comedic timing are on full display in 22 Jump Street.
Jillian Bell as Mercedes
Mercedes is Maya’s snarky and suspicious roommate who becomes one of the film’s most unexpected and hilarious characters. Her sharp wit and confrontational nature lead to some of the film’s funniest exchanges, especially her interactions with Schmidt.
Jillian Bell, who plays Mercedes, is known for her work on Workaholics and Saturday Night Live. Bell’s ability to deliver deadpan humor with perfect timing makes her a strong comedic force in the film.
Amber Stevens as Maya Dickson
Maya Dickson is a college student who catches Schmidt’s eye. She later becomes a significant part of the plot when it’s revealed she is Captain Dickson’s daughter. Her character adds a romantic subplot to the film, while also contributing to the movie’s humor through her interactions with both Schmidt and her father.
Amber Stevens, who plays Maya, has appeared in television series such as Greek and The Carmichael Show. Her performance in 22 Jump Street showcases her talent for both comedy and drama.
