5 best movies to watch if you liked Rebel Ridge

Directed by Jeremy Saulnier and starring Aaron Pierre, Rebel Ridge is a crime action thriller recently released on Netflix. It revolves around Terry Richmond (Pierre), a former marine who has gathered funds to bail out his cousin. But en route, he is attacked by corrupt police officers who take his cash in the name of civil forfeiture.

Terry takes matters into his own hands and begins to fight against the corrupt officers to get back his money, even by extreme methods if necessary. Under Saulnier’s direction, the movie features sharp action and fight sequences and a stoic protagonist.

Directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Al Pacino, Serpico is a biographical crime drama detailing Frank Serpico's true story. Pacino plays the titular role of a New York police officer stuck amidst corrupt cops. He begins to expose the corruption, which leads to the famous investigation by the Knapp Commission.

Like Richmond in Rebel Ridge, Serpico starts weeding out corruption in the police force. Rebel Ridge also references Serpico in the movie when Richmond codenames an informant, Serpico. Serpico was widely acclaimed.

An action thriller, Homefront, is written by Sylvester Stallone. Starring Jason Statham, the movie is based on a novel and revolves around Phil Broker (Statham), a peacefully retired DEA agent. But when his daughter becomes the target of school bullying, he must fight it out with a crime boss.

The movie is set in a small town and focuses on the nexus of corruption, power, and influential forces. Terry and Phil from Rebel Ridge and Homefront are initially hesitant to get involved but have to when needed.


3) Walking Tall (1973) - Amazon Video

Based on Buford Pusser's real life, Walking Tall is a vigilante action film. When Pusser moves back to his hometown of Tennessee, he is hit for calling out cheating at a gambling establishment. He soon realizes that corruption runs through the entire county and decides to become a sheriff.

Both Rebel Ridge and Walking Tall are vigilante action films that have a similar focus on strong protagonists who want to expel corruption from the root. Waking Tall is a cut classic and has a sequel and a TV series.


4) Jack Reacher - Netflix

Based on a novel by Lee Child and starring Tom Cruise, Jack Reacher is an action thriller about a former US Army investigator who must help in a mass shooting investigation involving a military sniper. Rebel Ridge’s Terry has been compared to Jack by many critics. Both are ex-military men who can’t stand injustice.

In Rebel Ridge and Jack Reacher, the protagonists discover a larger conspiracy, and the movie has impressive action sequences. Jack Reacher was well received and had a sequel with Cruise reprising Jack’s role.


5) Law Abiding Citizen - Amazon Prime Video

A vigilante action thriller, Law Abiding Citizen, stars Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. It revolves around an engineer, Clyde Shelton (Butler), who is forced to watch his wife and daughter’s killing. Disillusioned by the unjust justice system, he decides to avenge his family’s murder.

Like Terry in Rebel Ridge, Clyde fights against injustice in the system when a tragedy befalls him. The movie also has themes of morality and psychological turmoil, which makes it a somber yet thrilling watch.
