Netflix added Bollywood crime thriller Sector 36 to its library on September 13, 2024. The film is loosely inspired by the Nithari killings which took place in Noida, India near a village named Nithari, between 2005-2006.

The official synopsis of Sector 36 as per Rotten Tomatoes reads as follows:

"When several children disappear at the hands of a serial killer in Sector 36, a corrupt cop is forced to pursue the chilling case at all costs."

Several women and children died in the Nithari slaughter, and there were claims of r*pe, cannibalism, murder, and even necrophilia. Later, in 2006, the dismembered bodies of the victims were found in a gutter close to a Nithari home where the authorities assumed the murders had occurred.

Reportedly, Moninder Singh Pandher, a Noida resident was found guilty in 2022 of immoral trafficking and his servant Surinder Koli was charged with murder, r*pe, evidence destruction, and even abduction. Koli received multiple life sentences and as per prison records is currently serving time in a prison in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Pandher on the other hand was released from jail in October 2023, after all the charges against him were dropped, citing lack of evidence.
