For fans of the supernatural horror genre who enjoyed watching The Deliverance, the following is a list of other movies in the same vein, based on their IMDB rating.

The Shining, A Quiet Place, and other movies like The Deliverance

1) The Silence of the Lambs

IMDB rating: 8.6/10

This spine-chilling movie, akin to what The Deliverance emanates, revolves around Clarice Starling, one of the top cadets at the FBI's training academy. When Jack Crawford recruits her to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a renowned psychologist, things begin to get interesting. Lecter is a violent psychopath and is in prison for life, having been incarcerated for murder and cannibalism.

Starling enlists the psychopath's help in hunting another serial killer named Buffalo Bill, infamous for skinning his predominantly female victims. Crawford believes that Lecter may help with the case, and Starling takes the bait, eager to establish herself in the male-dominated world. However, she quickly realizes that her interactions with Lecter are simply a complex psychological game.

Fans of The Deliverance, are sure to appreciate this masterpiece that boasts a strong female lead, navigating unknown, horrific experiences.

The Shining is a mind-boggling movie that tells the tale of a family headed to a hotel to find solace in winter. Based on a Stephen King novel from 1977 of the same name, the hotel is all by its lonesome in Colorado, where Jack Torrance is hoping to end his writer's block.

His son, Danny, possesses psychic abilities. Soon, Jack begins encountering otherworldly spirits and Danny starts seeing disturbing visions of the hotel's past. Jack begins descending into madness, eventually attempting to murder his wife and son. The film explores themes of isolation, the supernatural, and the lonely.

Like The Deliverance, this film also revolves around a family plagued with a demonic infestation.

3) Saw

IMDB rating: 7.6/10

The movie tells the tale of a Jigsaw Killer who plays inhumane games on his victims. He tests their will to live by forcing them through what he calls "games," wherein they must inflict extreme physical pain upon themselves if they wish to survive.

The movie follows Dr. Lawrence Gordon and Photographer Adam Stanheight, who find themselves locked in a filthy bathroom. One must kill the other to save his own family, all while the family in question is forced to watch the happenings through a closed-circuit video.

Although similar to The Deliverance in genre, this one is rather gory.

4) A Quiet Place

IMDB rating: 7.5/10

A Quiet Place focuses on a family's journey as they traverse in search of food, water, and a safe place to live. Earth has been invaded by extraterrestrials, who, albeit blind, hunt by sound. Even the faintest whisper or the lightest footstep can get humans killed. It's been over a year, and all Evelyn and Lee want is to keep their children safe.

To make things more difficult, their eldest child is deaf, and Lee is always trying to find ways to improve her cochlear implant because her life depends on it. Evelyn, on the other hand, is pregnant. The family eventually discovers a weapon against these deadly creatures, and they prepare themselves for battle-- all while Evelyn goes into labor.

Like The Deliverance, this film involves a family just trying to protect their kids.

5) The Conjuring

The Conjuring is a horror movie staple. It follows the lives of the Perron family, who have just moved into a new home. Soon, things start getting suspicious. Their dog dies, the clocks all stop at the same time, and the girls are being tugged out of their beds at night. The mother wakes up with unexplained bruises on her body. They eventually realize there's something insidious lurking within the house.

Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators, are called in. They do some digging and happen upon the house's gruesome history, one that dates back to the Salem Witch Trials. Soon, the Perrons and Warrens have no choice but to fight off the evil entity harming the family, with Ed carrying out an exorcism himself in the basement of their house. The film is said to be based on a true story.

Like The Deliverance, this film will have you hooked, as it follows a family just trying to ward off evil and keep themselves safe from harm.

From psychopathic serial killers to extraterrestrial creatures with acute hearing, like The Deliverance, these movies are sure to leave audiences mind-boggled, if not terrified.
