A spin-off and prequel to A Quiet Place, the movie A Quiet Place: Day One is the third installment in the A Quiet Place franchise. Directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, and others. The movie is about Sam, a terminally ill woman (Lupita), who is caught amidst an invasion of New York City by aliens who are blind but extremely sensitive to sound.

The movie provides an origin for the creatures in the A Quiet Place franchise. The movie was well received, and Lupita and Joseph’s acting was appreciated. A Quiet Place: Day One is a must-watch for those who enjoy post-apocalyptic films and themes that revolve around ‘keeping quiet’ to stay out of danger.

Viewers who enjoyed the movie can check the list below that has seven similarly themed movies.

1) The Silence - Netflix

Directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Stanley Tucci, The Silence is a horror movie that is based on a novel by Tim Lebbon. It is similar to A Quiet Place: Day One, as it features creatures who attack after listening to sound. Instead of aliens, though, here the movie focuses on prehistoric creatures that are discovered by a cave research team.

As Lupita and Joseph try to survive in A Quiet Place: Day One, similarly, in this movie, Hugh (Tucci) tries to keep his deaf daughter, Ally (Shipka), safe. The movie received mixed reviews but comes under the same creatures-who-hunt-by-sound genre.

2) The Darkest Hour - Amazon Prime Video

Another movie that focuses on an alien invasion in a metropolitan city is The Darkest Hour, directed by Chris Gorak. Instead of New York City in A Quiet Place: Day One, here the city is Moscow. Two Americans (Emile Hirsch and Max Minghella) who arrive in Moscow to sell software are taken aback when they find themselves amidst a sudden alien invasion.

Like A Quiet Place: Day One, the whole city is caught in ravages, and the two friends along with two other tourists have to survive. Like Day One, there’s a catch here as well, as the aliens rely on technology to sense humans.

3) Cloverfield - Amazon Prime Video

Another movie that features creatures attacking New York City like A Quiet Place: Day One is Cloverfield. A found footage monster film directed by Matt Reeves, the movie revolves around six New York City residents who are trying to save themselves from the monsters who have unleashed terror on the city.

Alongside, a group of four friends try to desperately save their fifth friend, who is trapped in her apartment. The movie was well received and has spawned a franchise. Like A Quiet Place: Day One, the movie has the same metropolitan setting and a horde of bloodthirsty monsters, if not aliens.

4) Bird Box - Netflix

Directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock, Bird Box is a horror movie based on a novel by Josh Malerman. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world and revolves around a mother, Malorie Hayes (Bullock), who tries to keep her two children safe from unseen entities who attack if you look at them.

Similar to A Quiet Place: Day One, Bird Box is about dangerous creatures that can be hoodwinked by not using any one of the senses—voice and sight, respectively. The movie was one of the most watched movies on Netflix.

5) 28 Days Later - Amazon Prime Video

Directed by Danny Boyle, 28 Days Later is a survival horror movie starring Cillian Murphy. The movie is about a bike courier Jim (Murphy), who awakens from a deep coma and finds himself alone in the barren landscape of London. He soon realizes that a virus epidemic has destroyed the city and zombies are on the prowl.

Jim must now find other survivors while avoiding the terrifying creatures. Similar to A Quiet Place: Day One, the movie is set in the backdrop of a major city that is left ravaged by bloodthirsty creatures. Also, both Cillian and Lupita play characters that are extremely sick and frail.

6) Don’t Breathe - Netflix

Directed by Fede Álvarez, Don’t Breathe is a horror crime movie. The film revolves around a group of thieves who break into the house of a blind Gulf War veteran (Stephen Lang) to steal $300,000 that is hidden in his vault.

But they don’t know that the blind man has a keen sense of hearing and a dark past. While the setting is different from A Quiet Place: Day One, it has the same theme of keeping quiet to protect oneself from harm. A suspenseful flick, the movie makes for a good after-watch after Quiet Place.

7) The Mist - Amazon Prime Video

Based on a novella by Stephen King, The Mist is a sci-fi horror film that is directed by Frank Darabont. The plot is set in the small town, where a group of people in a supermarket are suddenly trapped when a mysterious mist covers the town and unleashes horrific creatures.

While the movie is of the same horror genre as A Quiet Place: Day One, the setting and creatures are different. Even though there is no requirement to stay silent, the characters in the movie move stealthily, lest they catch the creatures’ attention. The movie has a twist ending and should be watched.
