Blake Lively is busy basking in the success of her latest film It Ends With Us. The romantic drama, based on a 2016 novel of the same name, has secured $98.9 million at the box office.

As per People, the release of It Ends With Us and Deadpool & Wolverine, has made Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds the first married couple in 34 years to have their films rank in first and second place simultaneously at the box office. The last time something like this happened was when Bruce Willis and Demi Moore topped the box office with Die Hard 2 and Ghost in July 1990.

The Los Angeles born actor made her acting debut in her father’s 1998 directorial project Sandman when she was 11. Her first big project, the coming-of-age film Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, shot her to fame and she soon became a household name. Her iconic fashion sense has only added to the appeal and earned her 10 Met Gala invites.

Over the years, the seasoned actor has starred in some of the most successful shows and films including Gossip Girl, The Shallows, A Simple Favor, and more.

Blake Lively's first claim to fame, Gossip Girl, was all the rage when it originally aired on TV from 2007-2012. The series follows the lives of privileged teens belonging to elite families in Manhattan. However, their lives are not as private as they think, as a mysterious blogger regularly comments on their lifestyle and exposes their personal affairs to the public. Annoyed by these constant intrusions, the teenage leads strive to find and unveil the true identity of the 'Gossip Girl.'

She plays the character of Serena van der Woodsen, who has a mysterious past that she tries to hide from everyone. In the first episode of the series, she returns to Manhattan from a boarding school and tries to reconnect with her childhood best friend, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). Along her journey, she falls in love with Dan Humphery (Penn Badgley), who she ends up marrying in the sixth season. Their on-again-off-again pairing is the longest-running relationship of the show.

Serena is the only character in the show apart from Blair and Dan, who appears in every episode of Gossip Girl.

Starring Blake Lively and Ana Kendrick in the lead roles, A Simple Favor is a crime comedy thriller released in 2018. The story follows Stephanie Smothers (played by Ana Kendrick), who befriends an eccentric businesswoman named Emily Nelson (played by Lively). One day, after dropping her son at Stephanie's house, Emily mysteriously goes missing. Stephanie is compelled to search for her friend and the craziness ensues.

The People's Choice Awards winner was praised for playing a complex role masterfully. The chemistry between her and her co-star, Ana Kendrick, was hailed by the critics.

A sequel to A Simple Favor is currently in the works.


3) Savages

Ben and Chon (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Taylor Johnson) run a successful drug business. Both are in a polyamorous relationship with Ophelia Sage (played by Lively). The Mexican cartel approaches Ben and Chon for a business partnership, but the two refuse. Things take a dangerous turn for the throuple when the cartel kidnaps Ophelia. Now the two business partners must take on the task of saving their girlfriend from the cartel's grasp.

Despite being the damsel in distress throughout the movie, the actress plays a pivotal role in moving the story forward. Her performance, along with a strong supporting cast, makes Savages an entertaining and action-packed film.

Savages is currently streaming on Prime Video.


4) The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants

Four girls who are best friends for life spend their first summer apart. While shopping together, they find a pair of jeans that surprisingly fits all of them perfectly. They decide to share the jeans equally over the summer, before parting the next day.

Blake Lively's character, Bridget, travels to Baja California to participate in a soccer camp where she falls for her coach. She is traumatized by her mother taking her own life and wrestles with the thought of meeting the same fate. The film's sequel, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, was released three years later on August 6, 2008.


5) The Shallows

Still reeling from the unexpected loss of her mother, Nancy Adams (Lively) travels to a secluded beach to spend some alone time. While surfing she gets attacked by a great white shark, forcing her to take refuge on a large rock.

The looming danger of the ferocious shark creates much suspense and anxiety. Fans of the 1975 classic Jaws will surely appreciate the ominous atmosphere created here. As Nancy perches on a rock and maneuvers her return to the shore, the viewer is forced to root for her.

With a small supporting cast, the 36-year-old actor was relegated to carry the film on her own, which the award-winning actor did swimmingly well.


6) Cafe Society

Set in the 1930s, Cafe Society follows a young Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg) who moves to Hollywood, looking for an exciting career. After starting work with his uncle, Bobby falls in love with Vonnie (Kristen Stewart). But to his surprise, the love of his life is having an affair with his uncle. Heartbroken, Bobby moves back to his home in New York, where he marries Veronica (Blake Lively), but his past romance returns to haunt him.

Although Blake Lively's screen time is limited in the movie, she excels under the direction of Woody Allen. With a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this is her one of the highest-rated films.


7) The Town

The Town is a heist movie on paper but in truth, it is much more than that. It is a character study that delves deep into criminal psychology, motivations, empathy, and consequences. The story revolves around Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck), who leads a group of bank robbers. But everything changes during a heist when the group takes the bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall), hostage. Doug realizes that Claire lives in his neighborhood, and ends up falling for her.

Blake Lively plays the role of Krista, the sister of Doug's best friend, James (Jeremy Renner). Doug and Krista are in a casual relationship and James wants them to get married. However, Doug falls for someone else, which creates an interesting dynamic.

Lively's role in the film, albeit short, is very impactful. It plays an important part in fleshing out the motivations of the main character.


8) Deadpool and Wolverine

Ever since Ryan Reynolds announced in 2022 that Hugh Jackman would be a part of Deadpool 3, fans had been holding their breath for the film's release. Finally, on July 26, the film opened to huge fanfare. As reported by Forbes, the superhero film has become the most successful R-rated film ever.

The fans were rewarded for their patience as they delighted in several surprise cameos. One of these moments was the appearance of Lady Deadpool. Fans had speculated that it could be Blake Lively (who is also Ryan Reynold's wife) behind the mask. The actress later confirmed the theories and alas, it was her.

Lively being the female version of the titular character feeds perfectly into the meta-humor the franchise is known for. The star couple's children were also featured in the film as the adorable and cuter versions of Deadpool.
