Donald Trump recently lashed out against his latest biopic, The Apprentice. On Sunday, October 13, the former American president took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to go on a rant against the movie starring Sebastian Stan as himself. The Republican presidential nominee wrote on his platform:
"A FAKE and CLASSLESS Movie written about me, called, The Apprentice (Do they even have the right to use that name without approval?), will hopefully “bomb.” "
The former president further called the movie a "pile of garbage" and its screenwriter Gabe Sherman, a "lowlife and talentless hack". The Ali Abbasi-directed movie premiered earlier this year in May at the Cannes Film Festival and officially released in theaters across the United States on October 11.
"It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job"- Donald Trump on The Apprentice
Ali Abbasi's biopic, The Apprentice, did not sit well with the person whom it was based around, the former American president Donald Trump. He continued his rant on Truth Social:
"It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election, to try and hurt the Greatest Political Movement in the History of our Country, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” "
The two-hour feature also showcased the time in the Republican presidential nominee's life, when he fell in love with his first wife, Czech-American businesswoman, socialite, and model Ivana Trump, portrayed by Maria Bakalova.
The movie even showcased a controversial scene where Sebastian Stan's future former American president r*pes his wife Ivana.
The scene was based on a 1990 divorce deposition, in which Ivana Trump claimed that her ex-husband had r*ped her. However, the model later disavowed the deposition and took back the allegations.
Daily Beast quoted a Newsday article from 1993, in which the 45th United States president directly addressed the allegation, calling it "obviously false". The former president continued in his post:
"My former wife, Ivana, was a kind and wonderful person, and I had a great relationship with her until the day she died. The writer of this pile of garbage, Gabe Sherman, a lowlife and talentless hack, who has long been widely discredited, knew that, but chose to ignore it."
According to the former president, the "HUMAN SCUM" involved in the project, which he hoped would be an "unsuccessful enterprise" was sadly allowed to do and say whatever they wanted to hurt the political movement which he believed was bigger than everyone else, "MAGA2024!".
On October 14, the director of The Apprentice, Ali Abbasi took to X and shared a screenshot of Donald Trump's Truth Social post. He thanked the former president for getting back to the movie team and told him that he was "available to talk further" if he wanted to.
Donald Trump's camp had previously tried to stop the film from ever coming out. Both Ali Abbasi and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman were sent a cease-and-desist letter from Trump’s attorney in May, a day after its Cannes Film Festival premiere.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, a few days before the film's release published on October 14, Gabriel Sherman said:
"They released a statement the night of the premiere saying, “It’s all lies, and we’re going to sue.” That’s life imitating art. In the movie, Roy Cohn tells Trump that his number one lesson is to attack. So what do they do? They go on the attack."
At the time, Sherman revealed that Donald Trump hadn't seen the movie to that day, although they had offered to screen it for him.
The Apprentice, starring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, and Maria Bakalova is currently available to watch in theaters across the United States.
