A True Gentleman on Netflix ending explained: What profession does Saygin choose in the end?

A True Gentleman, directed by Onur Bilgetay, arrived on Netflix on September 26, 2024. The film stars Turkish stars Ebru Sahin as Nehir and Çagatay Ulusoy as Saygin among others. The plot of the film revolves around Saygin, a male escort, who understands what he truly desires after falling in love.

As per Rotten Tomatoes, the official synopsis of the film reads:

"A charming male escort finds his life turned upside down when he starts to fall in love, challenging him to discover what he truly wants and needs."

In the film, Saygin engages in s*x work while staying loyal to his client, Serap. However, after losing his close friend, Kado, Saygin quits his career as a s*x worker, becomes a chef, and opens his restaurant at the end of the movie.

Serap offers a deal to Saygin in A True Gentleman

Saygin, who excels at the emotional and physical aspects of being a transient lover, opens the film in a charismatic way. He enjoys a contented life and earns enough money from his work to support himself.

A few minutes into A True Gentleman, Saygin's client, Serap, makes him an offer of a lifetime: Saygin would be s*xually involved with Serap alone, and in return, she would take care of all his needs. Saygin happily accepts the deal and gets a luxury car and a bungalow to live in.

However, things start to change when Saygin meets Nehir (a girl) at a party. Saygin tries his best to not fall for her by ignoring her for days, but that does not work out well in the long run for both. After Saygin meets Nehir again at another party, which he attends with Kado, Nehir gets too drunk that night.

Nehir and Saygin grow closer

Later, in A True Gentleman, Nehir goes to Saygin’s home and sleeps on his sofa after she throws up because of excessive drinking. In the morning, when Kado arrives, he wakes Saygin up and tells him that Nehir is waiting at the bus stop. Soon after this, Saygin rushes to the bus stop and convinces Nehir to go for a movie, after which he drops her home.

Saygin shows Nehir how much he cares for her when a building fire endangers her one night, leading him to save her and bring her home. They even make love later in A True Gentleman, but Saygin never reveals his real identity or job to Nehir.

One day, after college, Nehir discovers Saygin with Serap in his bed, and she finally grows suspicious. Realization dawns on Nehir that Saygin is a male escort and that Serap is the source of all of his wealth.

Saygin's entire world crumbles soon after this. He loses Kado—his brother and buddy—the only person he believed would stand by him through thick and thin. An overdose in Saygin's home claims Kado's life. Once Nehir learns of his occupation, she also departs from Saygin's life.

After Kado’s burial, Saygin starts a fresh life and quits his job as a male escort.

Saygin and Nehir meet again after years

At the end of A True Gentleman, Saygin goes to open his restaurant, where he becomes the head chef. One night, right before the restaurant closes, he comes across Nehir one final time. He offers Nehir her favorite strawberry cake, and in return, she offers him a pass to her upcoming performance.

It remains uncertain whether Nehir and Saygin end up together in the movie. Perhaps Saygin's presence at the concert could rekindle the old fires and lead to the two lovers' ultimate reconciliation, should he choose to attend Nehir's performance.
