All We Imagine as Light is a 2024 drama film directed and written by Payal Kapadia. Produced by Thomas Hakim and Julien Graff, the film is an international co-production between companies based in India, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Moreover, it is executive produced by Harshit Agrawal, K.C. Pranav Raj, and Neil Chowdhury.
The film's star cast includes Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam. It premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2024, and was awarded the competition's second-most prestigious award, the Grand Prix. It also marked the first time since 1994 that an Indian film competed in the main competition.

1) Kani Kusruti as Prabha
In All We Imagine as Light, Kani Kusruti plays the Malayali nurse, Prabha, who lives with her co-worker Anu in Mumbai. Isolated and lonely, she yearns to live with her husband, who left to work in Germany right after their marriage.
Kani was widely praised for her performance in the horror anthology film, Kerala Cafe. She played Reza in the segment 'Island Express' directed by Shankar Ramakrishnan. The following year, she played a Naxalite in M. Padmakumar's Shikkar and the s*x worker Elsa in the thriller Cocktail.
In 2020, she starred as Khadeeja in director Sajin Baabu's highly-acclaimed film, Biriyaani. Among the accolades she received for her performance are the Kerala State Film Award for 'Best Actress', the Filmfare Critics Award for 'Best Actress', and the 'Best Actress' award in the BRICS competition section of the Moscow International Film Festival.
Her non-Malayali film credits include the Indo-French drama Girls Will Be Girls, the Hindi/English film Tryst with Destiny, and the Tamil film Pisaasu.
Moreover, Kani is best known to television audiences for her role as Advocate Tresa in the popular soap opera Eswaran Sakshiyayi. Her television shows in Malayalam include the Disney+ miniseries Nagendran's Honeymoons and Richie Mehta's crime drama, Poacher.
She has also starred in Hindi-language shows like the sci-fi comedy OK Computer, political drama Maharani, and Netflix's crime thriller Killer Soup.
2) Divya Prabha as Anu
Divya Prabha plays the outgoing Anu, who works with Prabha at the city hospital and is also her roommate. She has a secret affair with a Muslim man due to her Hindu family's objections.
Divya's most prominent film role was playing Reshmi in the acclaimed 2022 film, Ariyippu. She is also well known for playing Jincy in Take Off, Babitha Teacher in Thamaasha, Asha in Vettah, Jolly in Prathi Poovankozhi, and Aan in the fantasy comedy Ithihasa.
Prior to working together in All We Imagine as Light, Divya shared screen space with Kani in the soap opera, Eswaran Sakshiyayi.
3) Chhaya Kadam as Parvaty
Chhaya Kadam plays the cook Parvaty, who works at the same hospital as Prabha and Anu and befriends the two ladies. They help her relocate to Ratnagiri after her chawl/room in Mumbai gets demolished by a builder.
Chhaya works predominantly in Marathi cinema and is known for her work in the romantic drama Sairat, which earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for 'Best Supporting Actress - Marathi'. She has also been praised for her performances in Fandry, Nude, Aatpadi Nights, Redu, and Mahesh Manjrekar's Nay Varanbhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha.
Her film credits also include popular Bollywood films like Andhadhun, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Jhund, and Singham Returns. Furthermore, she appeared in Kiran Rao's directorial venture Laapataa Ladies, which is India's official entry for the 'Best International Feature Film' at next year's Academy Awards.
