Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Snow White made a huge splash this week when the first footage from the film finally debuted at D23 on August 10, 2024. Following that, the first teaser from the film was released online, that was set to the tune of Whistle While You Work, and also gave us a brand new look at Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot in the film.
At D23, the audience was also treated to an exclusive clip from Snow White. The footage saw Rachel Zegler's titular character sing Whistle While You Work alongside the Seven Dwarfs. The footage quickly leaked online following the event. While fans were quick to praise Zegler's vocal skills, some fans were a bit disappointed by the changes that were made to it.
In the original animated film, the character could be seen dancing and working alongside animals, while in the upcoming release, the animals have been replaced with the dwarfs. Not only that, she also makes the dwarfs work, which has made a certain fraction of the fandom mad.
A fan, in particular, took to X to use some heavily scathing words to describe the new version of this classic Disney story:
"Wow. This version of Snow White is an entitled brat."
Another fan spoke about how Snow White isn't "paying rent" and so perhaps should help clean up the house too.
"Wow she can’t even clean up. Is she paying rent at least?"
"Wait, they've been mining all day and come home to her directing them to do all the housework too?", questioned another fan.
"In the original Snow White, she cleans for the dwarves to show her appreciation. In the new one, she breaks into their house and forces them to clean for her," shared a fan.
On the other side, fans were shocked to see that the seven dwarfs themselves weren't real.
"Where are the real dwarfs ???" questioned the fan.
"That dwarf cgi was really horrible," pointed another fan.
However, while many fans were being negative about the scene, there were others who had something positive to share.
"I wasn’t sure on the designs before but after seeing them in action I’m so happy," said one fan.
"She did great though. And Dopey looks so fun," said another fan
"Rachel's voice is so beautiful!!!," share another fan.
When does Snow White come out?
The upcoming Snow White directed by Marc Webb, is scheduled to be released in theatres on March 21, 2025. The film is written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, and is also a live-action remake of the 1937 film of the same name, which was also loosely based on the 1812 fairy tale, Snow White.
The official synopsis of the upcoming film reads as:
“Disney’s Snow White is a live-action musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film. The magical music adventure journeys back to the timeless story with beloved characters Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy."
The film also stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Disney princess, and she will be seen alongside Gal Gadot, who stars as the Evil Queen. They will also be joined by Andrew Brunap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, and Martin Klebba.
