On August 27, actor Armie Hammer took to his Instagram and shared a video of himself claiming that he has to sell his favorite pick-up truck as he cannot “afford” the gas anymore. He explained how his four-year-old cannibalism allegation led to his “career death,” thus contributing to his financial struggles.
“Since being back in LA, I have put about four or five hundred dollars worth of gas in [my truck] and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore. But you know what? That’s okay. I got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s hybrid. I’m probably going to put $10 of gas in it a month,” he mentioned.
Armie Hammer further went on to explain that it was difficult for him to dispose of his truck as it was a “Christmas gift” for himself in 2017, which he has “loved… intensely” and “taken it camping and cross-country multiple times and on long road trips.”
Standing in front of CarMax, he mentioned how he was currently on a “one last road trip” before selling his truck, adding how he had fond memories associated with it, such as picking up his kids right after their births.
“Here’s to new beginnings. It's my birthday tomorrow. So, August 28, I will be starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles… I just keep telling myself that parking is going to be easier and gas is going to be cheaper,” The Social Network actor noted.
He wrapped up by addressing his car and conveying his thanks to it for giving him “amazing” trips and getting him “a long way,” adding he appreciated it all. “I hope you take as good of care of the next person,” Armie Hammer concluded.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Armie Hammer has an estimated net worth of $10,000 as of 2024.

Hammer began his career as a supporting/ guest actor in TV shows, before landing a lead role as televangelist Billy Graham in the 2008 movie Billy: The Early Years. However, his breakthrough role came two years later when he played the double role of identical twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss on David Fincher’s directorial The Social Network.

Edgar, Mirror Mirror, The Lone Ranger, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Call Me By Your Name, Death on the Nile, and On the Basis of S*x – all of which earned him fame and fortune. Unfortunately, his career came to a halt in 2021, when he was accused by multiple women of cannibalism, r*pe, emotional abuse, and manipulation dating back between 2016 and 2020.
While Armie Hammer denied all the allegations, he was divorced by his wife and TV personality Elizabeth Chambers with whom he shares daughter Harper, aged 9, and son Ford, aged 7. Reportedly, his publicist also resigned subsequently, and the movies he already filmed we re-shot.
Eventually, in 2023, the investigations against him were also dropped by the LAPD and the Los Angeles DA’s Office due to lack of sufficient evidence. However, Hammer was unable to recover from the career fallout. In July 2022, he was reported to be working as a concierge/ timeshare salesperson at a luxury resort in the Cayman Islands.
Back then, an unnamed source close to the actor told Variety that he was “working in a cubicle” and was “totally broke,” trying to “fill the days and earn money to support his family.” Around the time, it was also reported that Hammer also served as an apartment complex manager in the Caymans and worked in construction with his friend Ashton Ramsey during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, during a July interview, Armie Hammer told Bill Maher during the latter’s Club Random podcast that he was “broke” but “happier” than he has ever been in his entire life. Likewise, during the June appearance on the Painful Lesson podcast, he explained how the allegations led to the “death” of not only his career but also his ego.
“I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me. I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied, I never had enough. I never was in a place where I was happy with myself — where I had self-esteem,” he explained the upside of his situation.
Armie Hammer wrapped up by saying he was grateful for his health, family, and just being alive. He also observed how he spent months at a 12-step rehab program following the scandal, to deal with his addiction issues, but continued to maintain his innocence.
As per Celebrity Net Worth, the Golden Globe nominee bought a 7-bedroom mansion in Los Angeles in 2019 for $4.7 million. However, he put it on the market in September 2020, following his divorce. Later, in the wake of the scandal, he sold it at his buying price in March 2021. Reportedly, he spent it on spousal and child support. Armie Hammer also co-owned two bakeries in Texas with his ex-wife.
