Samara Weaving is back with a new horror film, Azrael, which is now showing in theaters. Set in post-apocalypse years in a world where some people have renounced the use of speech, the movie follows the story of a young woman, Azrael, who has been captured by a mysterious cult to offer as a sacrifice to some strange forest monsters.
However, the titular character won't go down without a fight, and the cult is not going to let her go so easily, and neither will the monsters who await a sacrifice. What happens to her, and will our titular character survive?

Kenan's death triggers Azrael to seek revenge
The Shudder movie is set in a post-Rapture world where the evangelical faction of survivors has formed a cult and done away with the sin of speaking. The cult, led by a pregnant woman called Miriam, must make a sacrifice to some dark forces in the forest.
They have captured Azrael and her boyfriend Kenan for that purpose. But Azarael proves to be nearly impossible to kill and dodges her captors and flees from the cult to save her life. However, when her boyfriend Kenan is killed by the flesh-eating demons in the forest, she becomes determined to exact revenge.
With that motive, Azrael heads back to the cult camp and finds Miriam. They get into a fight, and the titular character becomes heavily injured, but not before she injures the cult leader by scratching her pregnant stomach. She's then taken into the forest by the cult who throw her in a box underground, but she escapes and makes her way out.
Unfortunately, fate doesn't seem to have her back, as she once again comes across a flesh-eating demon who attacks her. Just as the demon is about to latch onto her neck, it smells something on her body and starts aggressively sniffing around before backing off. It smelled the cult leader's blood on her fingers from when she scratched Miriam.
Thanking her good fortune, Azrael returns to the cult's camp determined to have her revenge. She sets one of the camp's tents on fire and starts sniping the cult members.
After the camp is cleared out by the fire, she heads into the main house where Miriam is. As they engage in another fight, Miriam's water breaks, and she makes her way to a cot in the room to give birth.
Does Miriam give birth to the Antichrist?
When the baby is born, Miriam looks scared of it. She walks away from the baby and then fatally slits her throat with a knife while Azrael watches on. She goes forward to pick up the crying newborn and at that moment a bunch of demons enter the house, but they don't attack.
Instead, they scream out loud as if welcoming and celebrating. As the camera pans to the baby, it becomes clear what they are celebrating. The baby doesn't appear to be a human baby; in fact, it looks like a baby devil.
The baby is some kind of a demon, maybe the Antichrist, and that's why the other demons didn't attack Azrael when they smelled its blood on her. What will now happen to the newborn Antichrist? The movie leaves the ending open for interpretation by viewers.
