Back in Action, an action-comedy directed by Seth Gordon, will debut on Netflix on January 17, 2025. Cameron Diaz makes her return to films after nearly a decade, starring alongside Jamie Foxx.

Diaz plays Emily, and Foxx portrays Matt, two former CIA agents living in the suburbs. When their past catches up with them, they are pulled back into espionage and must protect their family from dangerous enemies.

With both intense action scenes and touching moments, the story looks at loyalty, strength, and finding one's purpose again. As the two deal with their two separate lives, they find out secrets that put their relationship to the test and change their plans for the future.

The official synopsis of the movie reads,

"Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Back in Action is directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch), from a script he co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien."

Cameron Diaz is making her return to acting after nearly a decade with the Netflix action-comedy Back in Action. She reunites with her Any Given Sunday and Annie co-star Jamie Foxx for the film. It's going to be Jamie Foxx's first big release after having a stroke in 2024.

Plot of Back in Action

In Back in Action, Diaz and Foxx play Emily and Matt, who are former CIA agents. They are currently leading a normal life in the suburbs. Suddenly their old life comes knocking and they are thrown back into the world of espionage they left behind. The movie is full of ups and downs. When their hidden identities are found out, the couple has to protect their children from dangerous threats.

The movie strikes a balance between serious and funny by having both action-packed scenes and funny conversations. It is directed by Seth Gordon, who is known for Horrible Bosses.

What’s in the trailer?

At the beginning of the trailer, Emily thinks about how much she loves her life, but then she realizes that something is missing. As she gets in touch with her old self, a lot of things happen, including the shocking news that Emily and Matt were CIA agents.

One funny thing about them is that their teenage daughter Alice jokes that she never thought her parents were "cool enough to be spies." There are fast chases, intense hand-to-hand combat, and funny dialogues that happen very quickly.

In one scene, Emily saves Matt by using her "superior inner-thigh strength," which is a funny and action-packed moment. It's clear from the trailer that the movie hints at a story that is both entertaining and emotional.
