Uglies and more new movies to stream in September
1) Uglies
From the Kissing Booth and A Family Affair, Joey King returns for another Netflix original. She will portray Tally, who lives in a futuristic world that requires them to get cosmetic surgery at 16.
The movie adaptation of Scott Westerfeld's book will follow King's character as she journeys to save a close friend and discover truths about being beautiful and ugly that will upend her whole life.
Uglies will be available to watch on Netflix starting September 13.
2) Rebel Ridge
This Netflix original by Blue Ruin director Jeremy Saulnier joins the list of new movies getting their streaming premieres this month. The highly-anticipated film was first announced in 2019 and stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, who goes to Shelby Springs to post bail for his cousin.
However, his simple mission turns tense when the police unjustly take his life savings, forcing him to go head-to-head with law enforcement. If that isn't the worst, he's about to discover a deeper conspiracy enveloping the entire township.
Stream Rebel Ridge on Netflix starting September 6.
3) Civil War
From a $122 million worldwide box office, this Alex Garland dystopian thriller is one of the new movies making its streaming debut on Max this month. It stars Kirsten Dunst as a jaded war photographer who races against time to reach the White House and interview the president.
The movie promises tense scenes as it gives an unpleasant look at conflict and madness while on the ground, depicted in Dunst's character's point of view.

4) Technoboys
For viewers who love comedy and music, this Spanish boyband comedy is among the top new movies in September. Per the official synopsis, the movie follows boy band The Technoboys's return to the stage. However, it won't be easy, as it's been 20 years since they last dominated the pop world.
As they pursue a triumphant return, the band fights against their rivals, the possibility of getting canceled, and the hidden agenda of why their lead singer decided to return.
Technoboys will be available on Netflix on September 11.
5) Rez Ball
Rez Ball is another Netflix original film among the new movies to watch in September, especially for those who love a good underdog story. This film, co-written by Sterlin Harjo, who also created Reservation Dogs, follows a high school basketball team that lost its star player.
Heading to the state championship without their star player, the team faces their greatest challenge yet. This story promises to show how the team, rich in Native American heritage, unites and keeps the spirit alive to reach their dreams.

6) The Boy and the Heron
This fantasy adventure by Studio Ghibli finally joins the list of new movies coming to streaming platforms in the US in September, over a year since its theatrical release in Japan last year, in 2023. It's another highly-anticipated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the famed Spirited Away director.
This 97% Rotten Tomatoes scorer follows a young orphan, Mahito, who decides to move to his family's countryside estate. There, he experiences a series of mysterious events that find him inside a secluded ancient tower where a mischievous gray heron lives.

7) Parallel
This is another one of the new movies for those who prefer sci-fi thrillers, which is coming to streaming months after its limited theatrical release in February 2024.
Per the official synopsis, the movie is a tense storytelling about how Danielle Deadwyler's character stays in her family's lake house after her child's death. But while mourning, a version of herself from a parallel universe attacks her. She must reconcile with the reality that multiverses exist as she tries to release her grief.
Parallel is now streaming on Paramount+ since September 1.
8) Wolfs
Movie superstars George Clooney and Brad Pitt join forces in one of the new movies for fans who love action and comedy. The film will get its limited theatrical release on September 20 before it heads to streaming a week later.
Per the synopsis, Clooney is a professional fixer in this film, hired to cover up a high-profile crime. Pitt's character is another fixer who shows up suddenly to do the same job. Now, the two lone wolves need to work together before the events spin out of control in more ways than they can handle.
Wolfs will premiere on Apple TV+ on September 27.
9) I Saw the TV Glow
This A24 horror drama got its limited theatrical release in May but is now heading to streaming in September. It's an 84% Rotten Tomatoes scorer that stars the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves actor Justice Smith.
It follows Smith's character, who simply goes through his suburban life before a classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show. However, it's not as simple a show as he initially thinks. Instead, it's a vision of a supernatural world that will crack his view of reality.
I Saw the TV Glow will be available on Max starting September 20.
10) Apartment 7A
The Assistant's Julia Garner returns to the silver screen in one of the new movies worth watching for horror fans. This upcoming movie is a prequel to Roman Polanski's 1968 horror classic Rosemary's Baby.
Garner's character is a young dancer in this movie who has her career on a tight line after an injury. A wealthy, well-connected older couple living in Bramford promises to help her. However, the hope quickly turns to terror as she soon gets devilish vibes in the Bramford building.
