Veteran character actor Bill Cobbs passed away on Tuesday, June 25, a few days after he celebrated his 90th birthday. His brother, Thomas, announced the news on social media. The reason for the actor's death has remained undisclosed.

The Facebook post announcing his passing reads:

"We are saddened to share the passing of Bill Cobbs. On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather, and friend. Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones."

The statement continued:

"As a family, we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time."

He enjoyed a several decades-long career, with nearly 200 acting credits to his name. Working as an Air Force radar technician for eight years, and later as an actor, Bill Cobbs's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Meanwhile, fans and coworkers in the industry have expressed their sadness over the actor's passing.

A closer look at Bill Cobbs's acting career

The actor began to pursue a career in show business pretty late, at the age of 36 when he upped and moved to New York in hopes of Hollywood fame in 1970. But, it was not until four years later that Bill Cobbs made his film debut in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three with a small role of being a man on a platform.

He starred alongside Paul Newman and Tom Cruise in the 1986 movie The Color of Money, which was directed by Martin Scorcese. Cobbs was also Judge Frankling in Cher and Liam Neeson's Suspect movie the following year.

On television, Bill Cobbs has made episodic appearances in shows like The Equalizer, Sesame Street, L.A. Law, and Spenser: For Hire. He was also a regular cast in the Emmy-nominated comedy-sport series The Slap Maxwell Journey and Homeroom.

With around 50 years in the acting scene, the late actor's career has spanned various genres, from crime and action to drama, fantasy, and comedy. Among the most notable characters he played was Devany in The Bodyguard, Master Tinker in Oz the Great and Powerful, Louisiana Slim in The Hitter, the aged Zachary Lamb in Demolition Man, and Reginald in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
