Blink Twice: Release date, cast, plot, and everything we know so far

Blink Twice is an American psychological thriller in which the actress Zoë Kravitz made her directorial debut. The story is written by Kravitz in collaboration with E.T. Feigenbaum. The movie narrates the story of Frida, a cocktail waitress and nail paint artist, who receives a fortuitous invitation from the tech millionaire Slater King to his private island.

The once-in-a-lifetime vacation soon turns into a nightmare when Frida starts to uncover the terrifying secrets behind the billionaire's estate. Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie take up the role of the central characters in the movie. They are followed by a talented cast of actors including Simon Rex, Christian Slater, Haley Joel, Adria Arjona, Geena Davis, Kylie MacLachlanzx, Levon Hawke, and Alia Shawkat.

Blink Twice first made its theatrical release by Amazon MGM Studios on August 23, 2024. Fans can now stream the suspense thriller on Amazon Prime Video and MGM Plus.

What is the story of Blink Twice?

Blink Twice begins with a cocktail waitress Frida, who along with her friend Jess, attends a private event. There, she meets the controversial tech billionaire Slater King, and the two begin to bond over conversations. Frida is somewhere both shocked and happy, experiencing the tech magnate's welcoming gesture.

After getting to know Slater's contrasting friends and acquaintances, Frida gets an irreplaceable invitation of her lifetime. She and Jess get a chance to spend a vacation exclusively at Slater's private island. Upon reaching there, Frida experiences the best that money can get. All the invitees, especially the women are showered with posh gifts of perfume, luxurious rooms, rich cocktail parties, and luscious meals.

But under the cover of this fun holiday, both Frida and Jess slowly begin to realize their ability to remember things is getting faded with time. When Jess goes missing and the other women can't even remember her existence, Frida understands that something is terribly wrong with the island.

Zoë Kravitz has made her directorial debut with Blink Twice

The initial name for the movie was Pussy Island when Zoë Kravitz first started working on the screenplay back in 2017. The actress then announced her directorial debut in June 2021, with the script written in collaboration with E.T. Feigenbaum. The official filming began on June 23, 2022, and most parts of the movie were shot in Quintana Roo and Yucatán in Mexico, as reported by The Yucatan Times.

But in January 2024, the original name of the movie had to be changed, due to the censorship in the Motion Picture Association. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on July 9, 2024, the director and actress explained her experience with MPA regarding its initial name.

"Interestingly enough, after researching it, women were offended by the word, and women seeing the title were saying, 'I don't want to see that movie,' which is part of the reason I wanted to try and use the word, which is trying to reclaim the word, and not make it something that we're so uncomfortable using," she said.

Kravitz continued:

"But we're not there yet. And I think that's something I have the responsibility as a filmmaker to listen to. I care about people seeing the film, and I care about how it makes people feel."

Channing Tatum went on to join the primary cast of the movie, and this is where he reportedly met Kravitz for the very first time. At the Los Angeles premiere of Blink Twice, Tatum told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024:

"It was pretty crazy, I didn't know Zoe before she sent me the script. I never had met her before. I got a text from Riley Keough, she's like 'Hey, my friend Zoe wants to send you a script.' I was like, 'Great, I love Zoe as an actress, I'd love to act with her.' I didn't know she wanted to make this thing."

In other news, People magazine reported on October 29 that Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz are splitting after three years of staying together. The Blink Twice couple got engaged in 2023 and made public appearances at various events.
