The movie where Saoirse Ronan and Elliot Heffernan play the lead roles, started streaming on Apple TV+ on November 22. In the emotionally intense end of Blitz, George reunites with his mother, Rita, after a long and difficult journey across war-torn London.
Despite the destruction of their home and the loss of his grandfather, George finds comfort in his mother's embrace. Though their lives have changed radically, their reunion offers a ray of hope in the midst of sadness.
How does Blitz end?
Blitz is set in 1940–1941 during the Nazi bombardment of London. The narrative centers on George, a little child who goes through the terror and bewilderment of the chaotic war setting. George yearns for his mother's safety and comfort while bombs detonate around the city.
George's mother, Rita, has to make the painful choice to transfer her son to the countryside in order to keep him safe. She knows that it is the right decision, even if it hurts her heart. George flees the train, and later comes to regret his choice, and tries to find his way home.
During his travels, George encounters Ife, a gentle guy who teaches him the significance of accepting oneself. Despite bigotry and hatred, Ife encourages George to be proud of his identity. Unfortunately, Ife is murdered in a bombing, making George feel even more lost and alone.
Along the journey, George gets duped by a band of robbers but manages to escape. He endures starvation, terror, and danger, but he clings to the memory of his family and the few acts of compassion he witnesses.
George searches for his mother in the ruins of London as the bombs destroy their home. He sleeps in a flooded subway station. After surviving the night, George notices her walking among the ruins.
In the midst of the devastation, the mother-son duo is relieved to be back together. Despite their losses, their reunion provides them with hope.
