Marvel Entertainment dropped the trailer for their upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. The Marvel Cinematic Universe enters its first Captain America film without Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson leads the charge in his new superhero avatar.
In Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson was handed the charge of being the new Captain America by his predecessor, Steve Rogers. Viewers have seen Sam Wilson step up to his new role in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World will see Sam Wilson understand what it means to be donning the Captain America name after hesitating in the series.
With Sam Wilson taking up the role of Captain America, one of the major gaps left was the role of Falcon (Sam Wilson's original superhero avatar). The newly released trailer confirmed a new character in the role of Falcon. Lieutenant Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) has stepped into the role of Captain America's trusted aide, a responsibility carried by Sam Wilson throughout the earlier MCU films.
Who is playing the new Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World?
As per the newly released trailer by Marvel Entertainment, Danny Ramirez will portray the new Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World. Danny Ramirez previously portrayed the American Air Force Lieutenant Joaquin Torres in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and his introduction hinted towards his role as the new Falcon in the upcoming MCU film.
Joaquin Torres is the Falcon in the comic books, although, in the comic books, he is enhanced by superhuman powers.
The new Falcon, Danny Ramirez, was also teased earlier this year through McDonald's posters, including a tie-in with the MCU. The posters portrayed Anthony Mackie in his new Captain America suit and Danny Ramirez behind as the new Falcon in a green suit, akin to Torres' suit in the comics.
Danny Ramirez is an American actor of Colombian and Mexican descent who rose to prominence through roles in films and TV shows like Assassination Nation, Top Gun: Maverick, and On My Block.
What is Captain America: Brave New World about?
The upcoming MCU film is a follow-up to the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it also takes the plot forward for the upcoming Avengers films in the MCU.
While Sam Wilson was struggling in his role as the new Captain America in the Disney+ series, he finally stepped up to it by the end of the season. The upcoming film sees Wilson caught in political turmoil as Captain America is called into action by the new President of the United States of America, Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford).
Wilson was earlier struggling to represent Captain America as a black man, with the racial inequality within the country in the back of his mind. However, in the upcoming film, he faces a new challenge as the President calls him in to become a military figure.
The newly released trailer for the film hints at the tension between Thaddeus Ross and Sam Wilson, who is not keen on becoming a military figure. However, when the supersoldier Isiah Bradley (Carl Lumby) launches an attack on President Ross, Captain America has to get in on the action.
The trailer of Captain America: Brave New World teased Giancarlo Esposito in an undisclosed role of what seems to be the antagonist of the film. The film will also reportedly feature Liv Tyler in the role of Thaddeus' daughter Betty Ross. One of the most exciting snippets from the trailer apart from the new Falcon, was the appearance of Red Hulk (the alter-ego of Thaddeus Ross).
Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to be released across theaters on February 25, 2025.
