Netflix’s recent action thriller film, Carry-On, was released on December 13, 2024. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T.J. Fixman, the film stars Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, and Jason Bateman in prominent roles.

The movie revolves around Ethan Kopek, a young TSA officer who is blackmailed into allowing a specific bag onboard a flight on Christmas Eve. It turns out that the bag contains the Novichok nerve agent.

1) Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen

The film opens with this song playing in the background, revealing the airport that will be the scene of much of its action. Although many versions of the song exist, the one used in Carry-On is by Bruce Springsteen, performed live in December 1975 at C.W. Post College in Greenvale, New York.


2) Holly Jolly Christmas by Michael Bublé

The relationship between Ethan and Nora plays a vital role in the film as the Traveler tries to manipulate Ethan through it. Bublé’s cover of the song plays soon after the first song, when the couple drives to the airport. They discuss their family’s future and aspirations as the song plays in the car.

3) Doo Wop Christmas by Kenny Vance & The Planotones

This is another holiday song featured in Carry-On, and unlike the previous two, it plays during the lighter moments of the film. For instance, the track can be heard in the background as TSA agents cope with demanding travelers.


4) Last Christmas by Wham!

Wham!’s classic song is a staple in any movie or show set around Christmas, and the Egerton-starrer is no different. The song plays during a scene where Officer Elena Cole and fake Agent Alcott fight in a speeding car. The upbeat nature of the song lends the fight a thrilling wave.

5) Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love

Darlene Love’s song brings closure to Carry-On. The movie ends on a happy note, one year after the events portrayed in the film, as Ethan and Nora live a cheerful life and are seen preparing to go on a vacation. Additionally, Ethan has fulfilled his dream of becoming a police officer. The final song starts playing after the one-year jump and continues throughout the credits.
