The latest movie from Tilman Singer, Cuckoo, is making its way to theaters on August 9, 2024. The movie is a twisted tale of family drama and something even more sinister. Cuckoo made its premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 16, 2024, and is now headed to the United States on August 9, 2024.

The horror-thriller film starring Hunter Schafer, among others, follows a teenager who moves to the German Alps to live with her father. However, things take a dark turn when strange occurrences disrupt their lives ,and her father's boss embroils her family in a sinister plot.

Hunter Schafer as Gretchen

Hunter Schafer is an American actor best known for playing Jules Vaughn in HBO's Emmy award-winning series Euphoria. She also played Francis Lawrence in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, where she starred alongside Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis.

Hunter Schafer also has a cameo in Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness, starring Emma Stone. She also features in David Lowery's Mother Mary, alongside Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel for A24.

Schafer has worked as a fashion model for popular brands like Calvin Klein, Dior, Helmut Lang, Maison Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Vera Wang, Versace and Rick Owens. She was also featured on the cover page of magazines like Harper's Bazaar, Allure, Teen Vogue, V and Paper.

Hunter Schafer will be seen starring in Tilman Singer's Neon thriller Cuckoo opposite Dan Stevens, in the lead role as Gretchen, a teenager embroiled in a sinister plot.


Marton Csokas as Luis

Schafer is joined by Marton Csokas as Luis, Gretchen's father. Csokas is a New Zealand actor who graduated from Toi Whakaari drama school, following which he worked extensively in Australia and Hollywood.

He's best known for playing Celeborn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003), Yorgi in XXX (2002), Guy de Lusignan in Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Hora in Romulus, My Father (2007), Nico in Dead Europe (2012), Jack Barts in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) and Quinn on Into the Badlands.

Csokas is also a three-time AACTA Award nominee who won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Romulus My Father. He was nominated for Best Male Actor in a Play at the 2008 Helpmann Awards for his work in the revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?


Dan Stevens as Herr König

Daniel Stevens is an English actor who plays Luis' scheming boss in Cuckoo. Stevens first rose to prominence with his role as Matthew Crawley in the ITV acclaimed period drama series Downton Abbey (2010–2012).

Since then, he has starred as David in the thriller The Guest (2014), Sir Lancelot in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014), The Beast/Prince in Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Charles Dickens in the biographical drama The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017).

He's also known for his work in the FX series Legion and the Netflix horror Apostle, among others.

Here's the official synopsis of the movie according to Neon Entertainment:

"Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family.
"Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father's boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen's mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn't seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family."

Coming from Neon Entertainment, Cuckoo is coming to theaters today.
