Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was released on July 26, 2024. Apart from featuring Deadpool and Wolverine together, the film also includes cameos from other MCU heroes, including Thor.

In the first half of the film, Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, is shown a clip by Mr. Paradox of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). In the clip, a distraught Thor is seen crying over a seemingly dead Deadpool. Mr. Paradox quickly clarifies that this scene is from the future. This brief clip has generated lots of discussions among fans.

Some viewers have taken to social media platforms like Reddit to discuss why Thor would be crying over Deadpool. While some believe it could be one of the jokes Deadpool & Wolverine is known for, others think it foreshadows important events in the upcoming MCU projects.

Why was Thor crying in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Deadpool & Wolverine begins in medias res with an action sequence featuring Deadpool fighting the TVA. As the initial credits end, viewers are shown that back in 2018, Deadpool wanted to join the Avengers. This interview took place on Earth-616. However, Happy Hogan rejected his candidacy.

In the present, Deadpool has been brought to the TVA for using Cable's time-traveling device to travel to Earth-616 from his native timeline, Earth-10005. Mr. Paradox of the TVA informs Deadpool that he has been chosen for a higher purpose and offers him the chance to go to Earth-616 properly and join the Avengers.

To convince Deadpool, Mr. Paradox shows him certain clips on the monitor, including scenes of the Avengers in action. One of the clips, however, shows Thor crying over Deadpool’s seemingly dead body.

This short clip has intrigued fans worldwide, sparking speculations and theories online. One Reddit user, for instance, suggested that it could just be an easter egg since the clip resembles a scene from Thor: The Dark World in which Thor was crying over a presumably dead Loki’s body.

Some users believe the clip is meant to be taken as a joke and should not be taken seriously. However, one user believes that this clip shows Deadpool’s desire to do something meaningful and be loved by the Avengers. Quite a few fans think that this scene in Deadpool & Wolverine foreshadows important plotlines from future MCU projects. One user, for instance, speculates that Deadpool might “die in Secret Wars.”

Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released in 2027. While not much is known about the film yet, it is possible that Deadpool could eventually join the Avengers and meet his end in the film, which could explain Thor crying over his body.

Whatever the actual cause behind Thor crying may be, this clip from Deadpool & Wolverine has certainly kept fans busy with theories and guesses.

Will Thor and Deadpool meet in future?

As Mr. Paradox clarifies in Deadpool & Wolverine, the clip shows something from the future. In it, Thor looks distressed and saddened enough to cry over Deadpool’s dead body. Therefore, it is possible that they might meet in some future MCU movie and develop a bond.

In Avengers: Secret Wars, Deadpool might have to sacrifice himself for the greater good, or he could be killed by some powerful enemy. Both of these possibilities are open if Deadpool joins the Avengers at some point.

However, it is also possible that Thor and Deadpool never actually meet, and this clip in Deadpool & Wolverine was just a joke or a parody of a scene from Thor: The Dark World. Fans will have to wait and see if these two heroes ever meet each other.

Deadpool & Wolverine brings the two titular heroes together as a team and features several cameos and guest appearances. The film is currently playing in theaters.
