How was Descendants: The Rise of Red received?
The movie has been quite mixed in terms of receiving both positive and negative reviews from critics and audiences.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is 5.2/10. While some enjoyed the peppy tracks and elaborate dance numbers, many left the cinema halls disappointed, feeling that the film lacked something.
Positive reviews pointed to great songs and dance numbers, whereas for Mama's Geeky's Tessa Smith, the movie was praiseworthy, as it gave a whole new generation of Auradon fans.
At the same time, the blend of fast-paced action, emotional depth, fantastic visuals and strong performances maintained the charm of the Descendants franchise very much alive.
Critical ones, though, find chinks in the armour. A Bleeding Cool review cited a nonsensical plot and half-developed ideas. The teen drama bits feel awkward at times, but remind yourself, this is still a Disney movie.
