Barbra Streisand shares sweet tribute to Kris Kristofferson after his death

Kris Kristofferson worked with Barbra Streisand in only one film, A Star Is Born. The two formed a close friendship during the film's shooting that endured until the end of Kris's life.

After his death, Barbra shared a heartfelt tribute to her dear friend in an Instagram post dated September 29, 2024. She recalled their first meeting:

“The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A., I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born.”

She ended her tribute message by offering her condolences to Kris' widow, Lisa Kristofferson:

“My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa who I know supported him in every way possible."

Kris and Barbra became a legendary onscreen couple after working together in A Star Is Born.

Streisand played the aspiring singer Esther Hoffman, who falls in love with the much-older and established rock star, John Norman Howard (Kris Kristofferson). John's once-soaring career begins to stagnate just as Esther's career starts taking off, which causes friction between the couple.

Both Kris and Barbra picked up Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for their memorable performances in the movie. Furthermore, the duo performed the single Evergreen in the film, which was written by Streisand herself.

It became widely popular and was considered a love anthem for the next few generations. Evergreen won the Oscar for Best Original Song and became a hallmark of their collaboration.

Years before working on the film, the two briefly dated in 1970. They remained close friends for decades despite never sharing screen space in a movie again.
